The dupe trick was working (as a friend said to me iirc) on Sandworm, on Nyzul and in some TOAU bc too.
Bullshit? We'll see! :D

Perhaps you should save your energy. Most people don't really care how things are supposed to be pronounced when they are made up words for the most part anyways. If you know what they are talking about what difference does it make? Shit, I can't even pronounce Paladin or melee right you'd have a field day with me.
Well pretty much anything in FFXI has some basis in old myths and folklore, so maybe they're made up, or maybe there's some fact in there? Certainly they weren't made up by the FFXI developers. Anyhow, it's more a case of people butchering the english language. There's enough of that happening at the moment, if i can fix a few little misunderstandings, it helps. No one has taken insult yet.
I blame america.
I would LOVE to have a Vent-soundbyte thread with peoples pronunciations of items/monsters in the game. Yes, many of the words are made up, but many more actually already exist within Historical Battlefield texts and various nations' mythology.
One of my favorite to hear people say on vent is "Aspidochelone". I'll hear like 3-4 pronunciations of that word. Another favorite I have is "Errant Houppelande".
The funniest I ever heard was someone saying "Chocobo" and they would pronounce it "Ko ko bo", I would always laugh and say "What happened to the "CH!!!!"
Wasn't there a thread for people's pronounciations of stuff?
I didn't say they were
Wait so how the hell is Odin supposed to be pronounced then?
My linkshell has a thread in our private forums called the "Kaos dictionary". It's basically a list of all the butchered words we've heard on ventrilo spelled in whatever weird way it was said, with their true meaning. We call it the Kaos dictionary because a ls member named Kaosresolver is responsible for the majority of the entries...
That's what I thought. I read "Every time I hear Kallo say Oh-din, I want to punch babies." and was wondering if there was any other way to say it.
In general, a good number of the gear/monsters in the game aren't made up, wikis often have info on the origins, they're often mythological or historical terms.
And you can tell the pronounciation of the rest if you check the Japanese version.
Errant houppelande is pronounced "oop-land" for example...
I actually pronounce it as you do, but i believe the correct pronunciation might be "Oh-deen"
And what if you don't know what they're talking about? Someone in my old linkshell was talking about snything a "kai-u-dogi". I had no idea what the hell they were talking about. It finally hit me one random day that they were talking about a "kyudogi".
And I won't even get into the people who insist on things like "Mijin Gakerrrrrrr" and "Kirin's Oh-soad". Pronunciation should annoy anyone who's ever studied a bit of linguistics, the same way grammar should annoy anyone who's ever studied English.

POIDH.
I think you are all missing the point, regardless of whether they are made up or not, something is wrong with you.
