Where does one find a job like this?

Ok this is gonna seem odd, but BG has answers for everything else so why not this.

I'm trying to see how one would go about finding a job that let's you travel and help people. By travel I mean you'd be flown out to anywhere in the world (I really don't care where, the more obscure the place, the better the experience!) for say 2 weeks through 2-3 months at a time. While there you'd participate in whatever - disaster relief, building houses, teaching english. After your time in the place is done you come home, get a paycheck, a few weeks break, and then go out and do it again.

Does such a job like this exist???? How the hell does one go about finding something like this???

First of all, I wouldn't confuse having answers with having the right answers.

    Red Cross, Peace Corp. Next.

Red Cross = the type of thing I am looking for is only in a non paying position and in very short stints locally (they won't really fly you out)

Peace Corp = a 27 month one time commitment, after that there's nothing.

Anyone else that may actually have a clue?

Short-based missions work sounds about right. Six week to six month deployments, doing basic work such as disaster relief, home building, microfinance work (ie. loan $100 to let natives setup a buisness, let them pay you back interest free over time), water conservation/cleaning, etc. etc.

And before we get a classic BG religion bashing thing going on, the guy asked what kind of job does that work and I gave an answer. Even if the guy is atheist, there are organizations that do the same "missions" based work as well. Just trying to spread a different Gospel if you will.

Some civil engineering jobs have you travel quite a bit. Some field engineers for oil companies travel a lot too.. but they don't do what you want, i.e., helping people.

Well, there's no jobs like this, but there are such things at volunteer vacations, where you get sent to a warm tropical setting and half of your time is spent volunteering, but the vacation itself would be free and/or heavily discounted.

My dad was a consultant for a software company, and got flown around the world for extended periods of time, but was flown back home over the weekends. He also got to keep all the frequent flier miles he racked up, too. He's been to Thailand, Indonesia, Tennesee, Saudi Arabia, among other places. Later in his career, he requested to stay "local" (within the country), though.

Best of all, he helped people! (hey, helping doesn't always mean humanitarian)

how about merchant marine? the tours might be a little longer than 2-3 months though. This guy I know usually ships out for a few months at a time and then has a few months off depending.

Actually, my friend did something like that last year. He was flown down to Jamaica to build a couple housing complexes for about a month or two then came back with a nice fat cheque. I'll have to ask how he got into that.

You can get a job that requires travel (i.e. Expatriate) and then just help out wherever you go.

Being an actor, although I don't know how much that fits with your requirement of "helping people."
