Also, an arcade game I used to play all the time, but I cannot for the life of me remember the name of it. All I know is that it was a mecha-type game where you sat down in a cockpit thing that moved with you, had two joysticks for movement. All I can remember is there were open battlefields and you only fought one enemy at a time. I wish I could remember the name of this game, but I can't. That was probably the funnest game at an arcade I've ever played.

Nope. Had to look up what Virtual On was, but the one I'm talking about was in first person. The HUD was in the perspective of a cockpit. Thanks, though. I was excited to see someone might have known, but it isn't the one.

I love all of them but FF4 is my favorite with 9 my second fav.

Zelda series:
Again, LOVE all of them, but Ocarina of Time is my favorite, wind waker second.

MGS series:
All of them are amazing, 3 is the best though (with 4 a close second)

Breath of Fire series:
3 is the best. Period.

Nah, it wasn't, I wish it was though, this has been haunting me for about six years now. Not like it matters since I don't even know of any decent arcades around where I live, but still... Virtual On has a lot more vivid colors than what I remember of the game, the one I played was pretty dark. Also, you actually sat in a cockpit type thing, the videos I've found of Virtual On on youtube aren't.

I dunno, doesn't really matter lol. I wanna play that Virtual On one now though.

Do you remember anything else about it? You said it moved. Did the entire machine move, or was it only the seat? How detailed was the cockpit? What purposes did the joysticks serve?

I can think of other mech games, but they don't fit every aspect of your description. For example, there was a MechWarrior arcade game that was in a moving setup with two sticks -- one like a shifter, the other a normal flight-type joystick -- but you didn't fight enemies one-on-one.

I may be able to help you find out what it was if you can be a little more descriptive. Were you in an arena? How detailed were the graphics?

I think the only game on my list that isn't anywhere else is Natural Selection. God what an awesome game. I still think it plays with a lot of elements like Starcraft as an FPS (Skulk = ling, lurk = muta, onos = ultra, marines = marines) and so on, with additional twists unique to itself. I hope NS2 is a rightful sequel and a bigger hit than the original (assuming it ever comes out) because it deserves more attention than it got.

Thinking back on it, the seat only actually rumbled when you got hit, it didn't actually move. And also, I don't think the game was one-on-one unless the other player was playing as well.

As far as the cockpit and the machine itself, the best way I can describe it is two of these http://www.newlaunches.com/entry_ima...rs-cabinet.jpg put together. They weren't open to each other, but they were the same machine. The machine was mostly black.

Both joysticks were used to move, I remember because it was very difficult to control sometimes. You also moved very very fast, which is part of the reason. Push up on the left, pull back on the right, and you'd turn right. Pressing the joysticks to either direction would make you strafe, etc.. Pretty sure the aiming was fixed to the middle of the screen as well.

As far as arena, I'm not sure. The graphics were sort of just 3D polygon, nothing spectacular, but back then it was pretty nice. I do remember one area sort of, pretty sure it was the starting one since it's the one I remember most, but I remember there being volcanoes maybe. I just remember lava or something, red streaks.

Ivaden - It depended on what your arcade had. There was 2-3 arcades around me with Virtual On that HAD the cockpit. There was another arcade that had Virtual On without a cockpit.

I am 100% positive Virtual On had a cockpit with speakers in it that made it vibrate because I played it at the bowling alley as a kid like.... 5,983,567 times! They also had 2 joysticks for movement.

Edit - You know what else was the stuff? The Star Wars shooter where you sat in a similar cockpit type arcade.

This is also making me think of Cyber Sled, but that's not first person...

As people have mentioned, that also sounds like Virtual On -- especially because it is practically two Star Wars cabinets stuck together, much like "Cyber Sled" -- but you've already checked that one. Xybots isn't a sit-down and definitely doesn't have any rumble.

There's Galaxy Force, and its sequel, but those only have one joystick per. They're also not polygonal...

Will have to keep looking.

It's 100% not Virtual On lol, the game that I played was in first person and was more of a darker looking game, more grungy looking. Anyway, thanks Kohan for looking for the game, I'll be looking through that website you're using as well to see if I can find it.

Trust me, I wish it was Virtual On just so this didn't haunt me anymore, but I know it wasn't, unless you could change the color scheme as well lol. I guess it really doesn't matter if I ever find out or not, but if I (or Kohan) find out what it is, I'm making it a point to buy a machine if I ever get enough money!
