I can't believe only one other person has said The Legend of Dragoon. It was probably one of the best RPGs I have ever played. Every battle felt like it's own little mini-game and it was a total blast. Story wasn't too original, but really... What RPG has that these days? They're all some twist on "Band of guys gather together to stop a bad guy from taking over/destroying the world"

Xenogears was mentioned a bit. Very deep story and tons of fun in the battles too. I loved getting the item that made your character stronger as his health dropped. Got to the point I could do more damage with Fei outside his gear than I could in it against monsters you'd normally use your gear on.

Star Ocean 2 wasn't mentioned enough. 3 was all good fun, but I don't think Tri-Ace handled the conversion to a 3-D battlefield very well. Don't get me wrong, 3 wasn't horrible by any means, just not a game that I'd be writing home about.. Ya know? I spent so much time clearing everything I could in this game including the arena and the hidden 100 floor dungeon.. I just could never beat Freya.

Star Ocean series really gave me a good appreciation for the few Tales of Series games that I could play, but they were all great fun.

Project Gotham Racing series - While I never could find 2, I played the hell out of 1 and after getting a 360, I had to get both 3 and 4. Didn't like the career system in 4 too much, but loved 3's system of progression. The series isn't quite full on simulation like Gran Turismo, but it's not even close to the "arcade" feel of Need for Speed series. No car damage does make it a tad dull at times, but also great fun when playing local friends and ramming them full speed entering a corner.

Guilty Gear, King of Fighters, and Street Fighter series. Loved all three. Though I never did care for the Marvel versus ones. Just some other great games to play with a friend.

Final Fantasy series. I loved 12 because it made me feel like I was playing 11 without being silly. Even went after the 50mil HP boss in 12. Just takes time since he doesn't regenerate and you could go in and do 2-3 million in damage, leave the zone and heal up, run back in and fight some more, rinse and repeat until he died. Mastered Tactics too. Blade Grasp + Calculator skills = Unkillable.

I've never been able to beat Legend of Dragoon due to the fact that my second disc cracked and I couldn't find another copy :/

I'd keep looking. If you can get passed the graphics, it's in my top 3'ish of most fun battle systems ever with FFXII and SO2 up there. And it gets better as the combos continue to grow in length. Story isn't horrible either.

That or maybe find it available to download somewhere since you do own it, technically.

Metal Gear Solid (PS1)
Was definitely a pioneer of action/stealth game of its era, blew my mind when I first played it. Solid (no pun intended) storyline, great directing, and have very high replay value. My #1 choice of greatest game of all time.

Xenogears (PS1)
The story is the main reason I like this game, even though for most people it may be too long. Very complex story with a bit of everything, drama, action, and humor. Very high play time, also a bonus for RPG games
