    psp game suggestions

I need some good psp games to play.
    I already have
    FF: crisis core
    FF: tactics
    god of war
    dissidia
    tekken5

old/new doesn't really matter what genre.
I am specifically looking for at least 1 rpg though.
I'm already thinking about jak and daxter and Star Ocean, though I heard the 1st star ocean wasn't very good.

Jeanne d'Arc, a SRPG in the same vein as disgaea, if you've ever played that (and if you haven't, you should, it has a PSP port), and featuring fully animated, voice-acted cutscenes.

Patapon, it's kind of like half rhythm game, half rts

Valkyrie Profile: Lenneth, which is a port of a PS1 RPG. the dungeon parts are kind of 2D-platformy, with turn-based combat that relies heavily on combos

Daxter doesn't feature Jak at all, but it's a pretty good game. plays pretty similarly to the second game, minus dark jak and plus platforming based on your gun's ability to allow you to float.

Ratchet and Clank: Size Matters, which is virtually identical to the PS2 games.

Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops, which is much shorter than Snake Eater, and the cutscenes are done in a visual novel style, but is still a good game. If you like this game, MPO Plus is a competitive online multiplayer spinoff.

If you've never played Cave Story, it's an indie game similar to the 2d Metroid titles, and a free PSP port is available here: cavestorypsp - Cave Story PSP

LocoRoco, a platformer in which you tilt and bounce the stage in order to move a singing blob to the end while collecting flies, fruit to make it grow, and little people. It has a sequel, virtually identical to the first game, which isn't released yet in the US but is nonetheless available in English because an EU version has been out for a while.

if you're looking for traditional turn-based JRPG you can't really do much better than Brave Story. It's nothing crazy new and innovative, but it's a decent 30-40 hr straightforward RPG experience. Unfortunately, non-port non-remake RPGs for psp tend to be pretty bad.

Mana Khemia is coming out for psp soon, isn't it? If you're a fan of the ps2 version/atelier iris series I suppose it's worth looking into.

Assuming you're running Custom Firmware get yourself a copy of ScummVM and Monkey Island 1 through 3.
Also remember to get Sam and Max and Day of the Tentacle at least.

Metal Slug Anthlogy for a nice piece of nostalgia, contains all the MS games I believe.

Gitaroo Man Lives is also recommended. Try and find the JP version though as the Japanese vocals on some songs got re-dubbed to english and sound silly if you ever played the PS2 version.

Sid Meir's Pirates is also available on the PSP, recommended if you liked the PC/Xbox version as it's pretty much the same.

^ This, I'm like 20 hours into it so far and it seems to be a really good port. They even left it as broken as the original (hi2u Sword of Marvels).

Here's a list made by denizens of /v/, lots of good suggestions on here:

    Personally I'd suggest:
Castlevania Dracula X Chronicles, not only is the game fucking awesome, it has Symphony of the Night on there too.
Jeanne D'Arc, SRPG, I'm only an hour and a half or so into it but it's been fun so far, other than an annoying mission where you can't let some guy at the opposite end of the map die, and they stick enemies next to him that can kill him in a couple of turns.
Valkyrie Profile, if you didn't play the original this should be a must, if you did you know what to expect.
Tokobot, starts off kinda slow and extremely easy, but it's a pretty fun adventure game and the difficulty picks up quite a bit after the first couple hours.
Star Ocean, I never played any of the Star Ocean games, so I can't really compare it to the latter ones in the series. But it's a fun game, albeit extremely easy.

I agree with most of that list but WTF is kinda bad. It's certainly quirky, but it lacks the charm of Warioware. Perhaps I'm just spoiled.

Is the psp Disgaea a straight port of the first game for ps2?

Is the psp Disgaea a straight port of the first game for ps2?
Afternoon of Darkness features extras over the original, such as a 16:9 format to take advantage of the PSP's widescreen display. There is also a mode that focuses on Etna as the main character. In Etna Mode, Etna kills Laharl by accident while trying to wake him in the beginning of the game and thus becomes the main character. There are some extra boss battles such as Overlord Zetta from Makai Kingdom and Rozalin and Adell from Disgaea 2. There is, for the first time, a multiplayer mode available through Ad-hoc connections. This features multiple modes such as a "Defeat the Leader," "Capture the Flag," and the original "Battle." In the Multiplayer mode, each player also has access to "Geocubes" which give different effects to the battlefield. Other new additions include a music shop, which allows the player to listen to the game's various songs and even change the Item World theme, and a record keeper, which keeps track of various bits of information such as ally kills and obtained items.

In addition, Afternoon of Darkness includes a complete dual language option and the option to turn off battle animations. Most of the silent Japanese cut scenes now include voice acting. However, when set to English, the scenes that were originally silent in the PS2 release are still silent. To reflect Etna's recent voice actor change, her lines have been re-recorded to match Michelle Ruff's portrayal of Etna in Disgaea 2 and the anime.[citation needed] One notable omission is the theme song "The Invasion from Within" by Tsunami Bomb. As Atlus was the publisher of the original PS2 version and arranged for the licensing of the song, and NIS America (Nippon Ichi's American branch) published the PSP port themselves, they did not retain the rights to use the song and did not renegotiate for them. Also missing is the song "One With the Stars" which, like "The Invasion from Within", was added in the original PS2 release by Atlus.
DS version has even more extras, but alot of people (see: PSP owners) consider it the worst version because of the lesser sound quality and removal of most of the voice acting.

Interesting, for me Disgaea has always been a major sticking point since I tried it on PS2 a while ago when my taste in games wasn't as refined and didn't know what I was getting into. I enjoyed it but the idea of grinding to 9999 and maxing out (as is my custom in most RPGs) combined with the sheer depth of gameplay and the fact that I ran out of money healing people between battles led to me feeling overwhelmed, frustrated, and ultimately giving up on the game.

After that I was never really able to get into a strategy RPG, no matter how hard I tried, and after talking to friends I realize in retrospect that perhaps disgaea wasnt the best thing for me to start out on. Despite staying away from sRPGs for years (even though King's Bounty was one of my favorites of the genesis age, oddly enough) I've fiiiinally been able to sink my teeth into FFTactics on psp, a much less unwieldy experience for me.

I think I'd be up for trying disgaea again, eventually, and it seems like with it's extra content the psp version is the way to go. I almost feel like the pick-up-and-play nature of handheld games lends itself a bit better to the game since it's less of a production to play and pause, but it gives me the option of taking it with me everywhere if I get really into it.

Anywho, thanks for the info, sorry for derailing the thread lol

Also I was wrong, I made something even more broken than the Sword of Marvels, lol Aeterna made from Gamgees sword using Mithril twice during customize (1600 att, 70 hit, 40 guts, 25 crit, and each strike of the blade makes an explosion for additional damage on all of the mobs nearby) before I even turned the book into the guy at Linga.

Some of those mentioned are very good, so I'll mention some that haven't been brought up yet.

PoPoLoCrois - amazing old-school RPG, still one of my favourite games.

If you have access to European PSP Games get :

    Tales of Eternia
    Breath of Fire III

Others that are worth trying are Valkyrie Profile like mentioned before, or Star Ocean 2.
Star Ocean 1 is also pretty fun.

you're right, the ability to recruit pleinair is way more important than the major hit the sound and graphics took

I've played Disgaea on all 3 systems and disgaea DS is the worst, end of story

4 new characters and Demon Gadgets. The graphics are shit by all 3 of the systems standards and the audio is fine on the DS. The PS2 version is the worst on the fact you can't turn off attack animations alone in my opinion, but hey, different strokes for different folks.

Tales of Eternia is one of the best games I have ever played definitely pick it up if you can.

    Star Ocean I/II
    Jeanne D'arc
    Popolocrois (if you have patience)
    MGS portable OPS
    Disgaea
    Valkyrie Profile
Valhalla Knights (if your into Dungeon crawling style games)

Some okay games that might be worth picking up used would be:
    Blade Dancer
    Tales of the World
    Wipeout Pure
