This whole thread is a complete affirmation of how hardcore Atheists are just as bad if not way worse than many Theists out there.

Sure you don't know this person, but if someone finds themselves in a situation where they can't contribute directly to a problem it's natural to turn to other methods to try to cope with the stress. Having well wishes directed towards you while sick actually does have a positive effect too so no, asking for something like prayers is hardly a worthless endeavor, if for any reason but to help comfort the people close to the sick person suffering. And honestly, when in constant pain, people tend to think back to the easy things that you used to do that are now impossible or so much harder to do.

They're right though, this isn't the right place to post this sort of thing, but mostly because there's way too many people here that are fucking pathetic. I thought they created the spam section for these people.

And if this is just a troll, then I have no words for just how fail it is.

Because life is better for everyone when we all treat each other like shit. People act like prepubescent kids who got picked on too much in middle school lashing out at the world here.

How in the world did this pun slip past you guys? I mean I can't read that without a "bah dum pssst" in my head.

That being said; the only thing that I can honestly say to the OP is hearing about things like this makes me sad.

Because asking someone who "supposively" cares for their friend to actually do something about it is me being a dick?

If I feel bad about cancer, I can do research in the field, donate money to the cause, or even go spend time with cancer patients to help them in their time of need(all things I have actually done). All of these things would require me to get off my lazy ass and actually help someone. However, I could just choose to be a lazy fuck and make only myself feel better by just sitting around and thinking positive thoughts.

Is it completely wrong of me to think caring about someone means what you are willing to do for them, not what you "think" about doing?

I realize that you and the OP were trained as kids to believe you could help people with your UBER mental powers, but Im sorry to break it to you: PEOPLE help people, good thoughts do not. I took time to look up the disease and look at areas I could contribute to help the cause, and as of this moment, it appears ive done more to help this guy's friend than he has, and that is fucking pathetic.

This thread is absolutely retarded. It screams "Feel bad for me." And lol at "This is why atheist are bad." Why, because someone came on to the interwebz and asked us to pray for someone with a moderate condition? I'm willing to bet any one of us could list of some very serious conditions some people we know have. Both of my parents have broken their necks, my mother very recently. I didn't post here begging everyone to think about my mom.

On top of that, think how many people die every day and you don't care about it. You don't care because you don't know these people, and this is no different. I might care if I knew them, I don't, so my care level is set really low.

It sucks to be that guy, sure. But much like every single person on this forum, despite if you feel bad for the guy or not, will forget about this guy as soon as you close this page. Even if you remember him for a little bit longer; wait til this thread hits page two. Out of sight, out of mind.

You can QQ about people being dicks now but how are you any
different? I don't see you in a car traveling down to where this guy is staying to rub his feet or offer your ass up so he can lose his virginity.

No, you're a dick because you came here with the intent to make fun of the original OP, not because you're stating your opinion on the topic.

Positive thinking won't heal anyone obviously, but being a dick can still hurt other.

I'm not making fun of the OP, I just think that making this topic was retarded.

Like Senoska, I, and others have said; there are other players probably more attuned to this forum that have medical conditions that we aren't making these topics for. There are other players on FFXI that some of us may know with worse conditions that we aren't making these threads for. And there are other "friends" or "bf/gf's" on these forums, or closer people to us, with similar and worse conditions, that we aren't making these threads for.

It's pointless, and I just don't understand why this topic had to be made at all. It is Too Bad, and that's really all it is. Keep your friends conditions to yourself, himself, and his families self. This forum does not want, need, or care about them in all honesty. Sure, some people may say "they are in our thoughts and prayers" but no, they are not. Some people may actually care, and pray, and thats wonderful all the power to them, but realistically there are better things, people, and situations that the people that actually are a part of this forum are dealing with, and deserve just as many if not more thoughts and prayers, and topics aren't being made for them. This should be spam if anything.

Oh, and I'm not Aethiest if I'm coming off that way. I see and deal with sicker people everyday, and I don't see anyone actually giving prayers for them nor do you see me or others that are in my field making these topics. I cited an example of someone burned alive last week, where is the thread? Just because this guy is an FFXI player he gets a thread? What about WoW players, do we get threads too? Where is Phoenix's thread? I have a hip injury that I'm getting surgery on in the next few months, the anesthesia has a very small chance of killing me if there is a mistake, I'll be sure to make an attentionwhore thread for that.

Honestly, should people really be talking about OTHER people's medical conditions on an internet forum anyway? I don't care if you are his bff4eva, this shit is personal.

No, it's just a confirmation of how intelligent people -- religious or not -- realize that their care isn't something you should give away freely, as if you even could. It's playing pretend. If you say "I hope they get better!" toward someone you don't even know, it's supposedly polite, but I personally don't know what's kind about empty well-wishing. You don't know about them, you don't genuinely care about them, and you're going to forget in a matter of days (or if you're obsessed, weeks). Your message is nothing but a meaningless knee-jerk reaction that holds no importance.

I don't know about you, but if I lay potentially dying in a hospital bed, I wouldn't think that a chorus of short praising sentences on a message board meant anything, especially if I wasn't familiar with any of those people.

When those people decide to take a knee and pray without saying a word about it on this message board, no, it doesn't do anything. The other person will never find out about it. Their "keeping them in their hearts" is, in fact, meaningless.

The spam section is actually quite wonderful, if you're capable of contributing to it. Coincidentally, I think of the Comedian in "Watchmen" -- you know the world is fucked up, and you know to laugh at it. I'm not saying we'll all run around killing Vietnamese bitches and saving the world, but hey, maybe.

That aside, I wouldn't call the people here pathetic. They're honest, if anything, and I consider that far more valuable than the aforementioned knee-jerk well-wishing.

If you want genuine care, go to your family and friends. That's what they're supposedly there for, aren't they? Even if they're your internet friends, which clearly, BG does not consist of.

The world is much too large to expect everyone everywhere to give their care to a faceless, unknown, and possible non-existent stranger.

Hey "Kohan," they have a section for you look for "spam forum." Seriously, do you have to shit on every single thread? What are you gonna do next, eat worms? Jesus fucking christ.

God forbid some schmuck asks for a positive thoughts before all the nazis come out of the woods claiming: a) it won't cure him (no shit Einstein), b) to actually become a doctor (lol), or c) what about other people (irrelevant)?
