So bought a 8800 mAh laptop battery...

So I wanted a battery that would last me 4 hours minimum on ordinary usage so I bought a aftermarket 8 cell battery. Problem is I charged it up to 100% and looked at how many hours it would last me and it only lasted a little more then 2 hours. I used a laptop battery program to take a look at it and it seemed ok with full charge capacity at 8656 mAh.

I'm not using the computer for anything strenuous, just web browsing. So do you guys think this is just a aftermarket product problem or something else. Thanks

How many times have you cycled it?

I think it takes a battery around 5 cycles to get the full use.
Discharge completly and then wait another hour, charge to full and overcharge for an hour, and then repeat 4 more times.

After that just keep it well conditioned; only charge it when it's depleted, dont let it sit empty for a long time, or over charge it for a long time, and never charge it if it's not empty.

another thought besides cycling the battery a few times.... brightness setting???

The laptop came with a 6 cell battery that use to last me a little less then 3 hours with power saver on and about 50% brightness. Pretty much the same settings I use with this battery. I did notice a half hour increase on the 3rd cycle, so I guess that was what the problem was.

If it is LiON, only charging the cells when depleted reduces the battery life. If the laptop controller is able to handle the 8800mah hour cell properly, the controller will never "over charge" or "under charge the cell". Over charged LiON's catch fire. Undercharged chemically change and will no longer charge properly. The little chip on the battery should be doing this for you automatically.

If the cell is NiMH or NiCAD (I'm sorry if it is) the above applies.
