I've only changed 1 thing. I eat dorodo Sushi at every fight, every time. Merits cover my acc just fine with that food. And yes, thats all I need.
Realistically speaking, unless you were already geared to hit things, your accuracy will still be pretty lackluster with only sushi and sword merits to support it.
Ideally, you'd want to wear something along the lines of:
Walahra Turban
Ancient Torque
Brutal Earring
Suppanomimi
Homam Corazza
Dusk Gloves +1/Homam Manopolas
Toreador's Ring
Toreador's Ring
Cuchulain's Mantle/Gigant Mantle
Velocious Belt
Homam Cosciales
Homam Gambieras
Basically putting haste in every practical slot, followed by accuracy, and at your discretion, HP. Truth be told, as long as you're utilizing Atonement, the above setup would be pretty ideal even if you were swinging a Joyeuse.
That said, tanking should still be your first priority, so this kind of setup should only be worn when you're not doing anything else, and to a much greater degree, when you feel that you're a capable enough tank that you can start caring about how much damage you're doing.
Who cares? Pick the person MOST deserving and stop being an elitist saying that only GHORN OR AEGIS. You don't do HNMs so what the hell does it matter? Be a real man and do a Guttler.
What about a choice between an Aegis and Apoc?![]()
Coming from someone who was the recipient of the LS's first relic, we decided on a G-horn over a Shield, but since the 1 horn have upgraded 3 shields, H2H, Gun, because all you really need is the 1 horn tbh.
The horn is quite possibly the most broken relic in the game. I have had instances when we were wiping to Jormungand as a LS (back when nobody ever killed him and Ores sold for 15M each) and I showed up, 2 hour ballad all 3 parties and Jormungand turned into a kitten after that.
Shield is nice, don't get me wrong, but even a well equipped Aegis tank can go down to certain circumstances, and if this is your first relic as a group, i'd suggest the Horn.
Now, for your member who would get the Horn:
1. You will be bard 99% of the rest of your FFXI career, get used to it, and it sounds fine now because its sweet getting a relic, but 3.5 years down the line, you will hate life.
2. you will be busy actually as a bard now, can't just sit in 1 party and hit mages with ballad, you'll be swapping back and forth from BLM party to tank party and back again.
3. You will REALLY want a 2nd relic after 3.5 years of only playing ballad for everyone ELSES benefit, but you won't get one most likely unless you fund it yourself.
4. Ctrl-9 and Ctrl-0 will become the top of your "I hate" list. (those are my 2x ballad macro's)
Also, if your LS is planning on Buying currency for the relic, along with acquiring through Dynamis runs, Keep in mind that M silverpieces are easier to optain than L jade (final stage for Shield and horn respectively). Far less groups do tons of Windy runs as do tons of Sandy runs.
Would agree with everything you said except the silvers being easier to find than shells.
the solution is to upgrade horn on a mule like us!
100% Horn
I recently moved from a linkshell that had 2 relics on 1 person Aegis/Excal. and 0 horns
to a linkshell that has 4 ghorn bards.
Ghorn imo is the most broken relic by far. The Jorm example is a PERFECT example of how this thing just changes the game. It may not be game BREAKING but it definetly changes everything.
In dynamis I go war/sam(bravura e body all the toys) run haso fulltime and never hit third eye, and never have to worry about it because my WHM is always paying attention and has MP to cast whatever is needed, and I get hit alot. But i think the players in my linkshell are above average skill wise
This linkshell does Tiamat in 24 minutes. KS99 wyrm in 4 minutes. 6-8 man nidhogs are normal with no panicing. No resting or downtime in Dynamis, 90% clearing northlands with 24.
I can honestly say without the Ghorn this would NOT be possible, it speeds up everything around it.
Was camping Khim with 3, rest of LS was at Fafnir
RDM + BRD/BLM + PLD/NIN
Paladin gear was
Excal
W. Turban
fort torque
brutal/suppa
homam body
dusk gloves+1
blitz ring/mars
gigant
ninurtas
homam legs
homam feet
he popped a sole sushi +1, 2x march from bard, and by the time first person from DA got to Khim it was at 79%. They warped out pretty much immediatly on pop. The only damage was from the excal and maybe a dia2.
to answer your question they should gear themselves Haste>HP>Accuracy. I dont think I've seen any of our excal paladins eat anything besides sushi, that includes one who tanked Tiamat PLD/DRK lol
a second accuracy ring, cuchulain's mantle and ancient torque (all you're trying to do is proc the additional, 7 attack is meaningless when your average melee hit is 12) would be improvements on what I'm guessing is stans gear, the proc rate is static and increases as your accuracy does (obviously). without madrigals and the gear you listed with sushi he would be in the 85% range of accuracy, the changes I listed bring it into the more acceptable realm of 90%. I have hundreds of parses to confirm this, blitz ring only outperforms a second accuracy ring if you have soul voiced marches (never). what you meant to say is haste>accuracy>hp, rather than being stans voicebox, have him post next time
Aegis
