Thank you for your translation, those interviews were really interesting to read.
I play the German version of the game and have to say that generally I'm very happy and delighted about the translations (ok, some parts of Chocobo Raising and Racing need a beta reader to go over again, there's left over Japanese and screwed up code).
When they first announced the German version, I was very skeptical about the whole thing. The first screens shown read rather badly, but the actual translation is very nice, although I'd wish they'd play more with dialects and veiled show references, like the English version does (the sheep guy in Selbina, Charming Trio, etc)
I have the feeling that they got better with WoG. There were references to the Hitchhiker's Guide and the popular children series Heidi (which made me go (o.O) (rofl)).
And Mog-Zock (German name of the Mog Bonanza) sounds really, really hardcore (meaning and pronunciation). "zocken", the verb, is used for hardcore gambling and hardcore gaming. and the z isn't the soft voiced s like in English.
The abbreviation problem is also present in the /translate function for items, since you have to know how it's abbreviated in the menu otherwise /translate won't recognize it.
I have always wondered about who was responsible for the various, very amusing HQ food descriptions. Good read.
Thanks for the Translation was a very interesting read. German words are long~
Best partStevenR: I thought about quitting. (laughs)
Emilie: I was pretty serious!
Excellent read and thank you for the translation. Fascinating to see how the process works for all the different versions out there :D
Thank you for the lols and the good read. Also, "Pinyopusarerk" is a weird assed last name.
Wow, I've never seen those particular HQ food descriptions before, makes me wanna dig through a list and see what else I've missed.
Thanks for the translation!
Thank you Corinth as always ^^b
Shantoto doesn't rhyme in the JP version? That's part of why she's so awesome.
Dude...those foods rock.
For all the community flack the SE higher ups get, you have to admit the rest of their team seems pretty damn cool. The food descriptions are the best, as well as Shantoto's rhyming. I always wonder how the heck they treat rhyming in different languages. And one of them is getting Maat's Cap, wow wth.
America's laws sound like a huge pain in the ass. Fucking politically correct b.s. I long for the day Bugs Bunny could gulp down a jug full of moonshine then whip out one of those over sized cigars. Now we can't even have drunk Tarutaru or fantasy gambling, what a sad state of affairs.
They could, but it'd have to come along with a new ERSB/PEGI/CERO tag. ;/
Was a good read, interesting to hear what the guys on the team are doing/how they enjoy their job, versus the disappointment which is usually the interviews we get regarding FFXI game content.
Am I the only person who never really paid attention to Shantotto's lines and didn't realize she was rhyming? The only reason I remember her is because she's a bitch (in my mind) and has that 'laugh'. Interesting note though, somethign to pay attention to next time I come across a CS involving her.
Im not sure if it's good or bad that the teams take alot of liberty to create their own words and such as weve seen a lot of goof ups in the past.
So these are the guys responsible for giving us peach of mind eh?
This was very interesting to read, thanks for sharing this! It was fascinating how attached they grow to their work, and how proud they are when we say that we like it.I have laughed and cried with some of the cutscenes in game, so they've done an excellent job translating them and tagging emotion with them.
