It's not the "size" that matters, but the "frequency" of the block... lol.

Seriously though, my favorite shield is Genbu's. I like the buckler type. When I sub PLD, I get the defense bonus, shield mastery and auto-refresh... it's pretty cool.
So, this coupled with -10% dmg and +10 evas is huge for my rdm.

Yes, I said rdm/pld. The damage reduction I have researched is amazing!
Not to mention the reduced "spell interuption" because of additional blocking!

Seraphs number's are correct, though I need to pull up my numbers for size 4 and 5 shields, however off the top of my head I believe it was:

    Size 4 damage reduction = 60%.
Relic is hard to specify as any given size as its block rate is that of a size 3, and its damage reduction is more around a size 4 (with much higher damage reduced due to the 40 def shield rating).

So aegis gives just over 80% damage reduction on block, at a cap of around 65% block rate.

The big question that has never been answered, that I have been trying to get good results on, is how the block rates vary between sizes based on shield skill and mob lvl. Currently it appears that each shield size follows a different line of block rate that is relative to shield skill and mob lvl, and is generally accepted that the smaller shields have a higher slope in those lines, however there are no tests to back this up that I know about.

Knowing exactly how these curves look could help people determine the best shield for the mob you are fighting (with the skill you have). Ill post my results when I am satisfied with them, however I have been getting non conclusive findings thus far (not nearly done yet).

Yeah, its a really huge undertaking if you are going to use all 4(5) shield types to get an accurate block rating with various levels of skill on different level mobs.

In addition, on anything that matters, it's not like you can go AFK and just let s parser take over... :_:

Yep, thats been my problem. Not only that, I cant use a parser purely due to taking 0 damage alot on shield blocks for lower lvl mobs (have to sit at my keyboard for 3 hours and count blocks >.>), and just taking low/median/high damage as reference for blocks isnt always accurate.

Currently Im about 6 hours into a 20 hour study on shield block rate by lvl/size/skill, just need some more free time Q.Q.

Problem will be finding some lvl 90 mobs that people will fight with me for 3 hours >.>.

If you actually manage to finish that, it might provide me with the motivation to do my long postponed Sipar testing. If it can actually break the 65% block rate ceiling, it does potentially have a use in the game besides taking up an inventory space.
