People are fucking morons. That is ridiculous.
Wow. This guy is out of control. I hope he ends up rolling in a barbed wire pit with Magic Johnson.
And that 93-year-old Michigan man was late on his power bill. So what?
That bitch needs shot in the fucking face. Then sodomized through the bullet hole with a dick covered in salt.
So the landlord wants her to pay rent, on a house that is currently rubble...as it burnt to the ground.
I wanna see this unfold on judge judy.
I think Brill meant the landlord >.>
edit: also copy pasta of the article
COVINA, Calif. — The ex-husband of one of the nine people killed at a Christmas Eve party has been asked by a landlord to pay the dead woman’s rent.
Broadcrest Foothill Apartment Homes claims Alicia Ortiz broke her lease and gave “insufficient notice to vacate.”
Ortiz and her 17-year-old son were killed by her sister’s disgruntled ex-husband.
The landlord of her Upland apartment informed her former husband, Carlos Ortiz, that he owes $2,821 in rent and penalties.
Says Carlos Ortiz, “I just don’t understand it.”
The manager of the property, Candyse Wardlow, refused to comment. Messages left at the company’s office were not returned.
Alicia Ortiz, her son Michael and seven others were killed Dec. 24 by a gunman dressed as Santa Claus. He then burned the house and killed himself.
Nowhere does it say she's behind in rent, but rather that the landlord is exercising the penalty for insufficient notice to vacate. Unless this place was a trash heap, $2800 is probably only a single month's rent when you count the penalty in there as well.
Good job reading the article, the lot of you![]()
Can I make the whoosh noise yet?! Seriously though, how does it fall to the ex-husband? I fully expect to see this lady's apartment get trashed now for severe douchebaggery. Talk about kicking people when they're down.
A single month's rent? For a house, maybe, but not an apartment.
The only apartments around here that cost $2000+ per month to rent would be the extremely upscale highrise ones in downtown Seattle. Most average apartments not in a trendy downtown highrise area are $800-$1200 or so.
.........
If the landlord really wanted the money she should have just killed the woman herself. I hear that death makes your customers pay.
Most lease contracts set the penalty for violations to be equivalent of a certain number of months' worth of rent payments, so it's still not farfetched even at that price. Plus housing costs vary wildly from area to area, I tried to look up the apartments mentioned but didn't have much success. Around here (DC metroplex) $800 will buy you a 1960s studio if you're lucky, low-average rent is 1200-1500, with luxury easily breaching 2500 for 1br.
There are tons and tons of 2-bedroom apartments in California, especially in Los Angeles suburbs, that are over $2000 a month. It doesn't say how many bedrooms the apartment is either, if it's a 3-bedroom apartment $2800 would be only slightly above median for around here even without the penalty for breaking her lease.
I envy those of you who think $2800 for an apartment doesn't exist. You must live in very cheap areas. "Nice" apartments in Seattle start around $1500 for studio or one-bedroom, lol. two-bedroom can push upwards of $2200.
Anyway, this lady is a cunt. I hope the ex dresses up as Santa and pays her a visit.
In Seattle, really? Well, then again, I haven't rented for a while... rents used to be like $800-$1200 for a single bedroom (and not in the boonies, either). Hell, I lived in Bellevue for $625 a month for a single bedroom, and it was 5 min from downtown, too, and right by I-90 and I-405. The only $2000+ apartments I knew of were like those highrise ones in Belltown and such.
Now I pay mortgage and live in a condo, but has rent really shot up that much in the past 2-3 years?
