How do you feel about paying 1/2 as much as the monthly fee for a 2 hour movie?

Or paying 4x the monthly fee for a single player game that you play less in 3 months time than you spend on FFXI in that 1 month.

It's a lot of entertainment for what you pay.

Imagine the money you have saved over the years playing FFXI instead of paying $50 - $60 a pop for new games. Let's not even talk about console prices or accessories to play those new games.

I can honestly say playing FFXI has most likely saved me something like $2500 if you average out the money I used to spend in a year on other games, compared to the time I've been playing this game. Now, if I had actually worked at my job (during the duration of my career) as opposed to logging time in FFXI, for the number of hours I've played I have lost somewhere in the ballpark of $60,000 using my average salary. All work and no play though...

paying 13 bucks per month, which can prolly lead to saving more(playing at home, eating left over food, not burning money drinking smoking) is pretty win to me

and 13 dollar for 30 days of entertainment is better than movies, where you can watch on youtube while your camping HNMs

kinda true, all my friends also went "wtf pay for subscription?!?!?!? to play a game?!?!??!" when we started MMORPG way back in our 16s

but 99% of this comes from "fuck i got no CC, i doubt my dad will pay for me to play a game when my majors are near"

I don't mind paying a monthly fee, but I do hate how SE doesn't pro-rate like every other monthly service on the face of the earth. >.<

Seriously, I have never seen an MMORPG that had a billing system as terrible as the one SE has set up for FFXI.

I think what most people miss when they freak out about paying a subscription fee is the fact that SE has hundreds and even thousands of employees dedicated to the upkeep and expansion of this one game, not to mention the cost of equipment and bandwidth. Most people dont think twice about dropping $60 for a piece of crap game that some company rushed to production without fully bug testing it and then move on to the next game. We pay a mere $12.95 for something that is constantly evolving. Its not the same game it was 5 years ago. Instead of getting bugy software that was rushed to production just once, we get it almost every other month :D
