Merit STR or DEX!?

I am kinda new to the game so I do not know what to put my merits into. I am 75mnk and 75thf. Should I merit STR or DEX?

I was thinking 5/5 on DEX would be nice cause the ACC and Crits.
... but then again the 5/5 STR might be nice for weapons skills.

What rings should I be using when I weapon skill on MNK. Right now I'm just using accuracy...

I see some MNK's using Thunder Ring while they are gaining TP, is this a good idea?

Base damage is the sum of these following things:

* STR - VIT Difference Function (fSTR or fSTR2)

for THF Main, SATA + Normal hit is calculated as Base Damage = floor(D + fSTR) + Total AGI + Total DEX.

Dex *may* put you in a new crit tier, it will add 2 or 3 acc for one-hand/dual wield, depending on current Dex.

If this ability is used by a Thief, the next strike will also receive a large boost in damage based on user's DEX. Weapon base damage will increase by 1 for every point of DEX the player has.

It's like that THF has 250 DMG weapon. It's where SATA gets it's power. Regardless adding STR or adding DEX does the exact same thing here.

Also note that 1 DEX/AGI does not necessarily add as much damage as 1 D on SA/TAWS since we're talking about SA/TA :D

The whole increase in 1 dex = increase in 1 D property is universally true in SOLO SA/TA only.

No, SA is like a critical hit with a DMG: 130 weapon. SATA, with 100 DEX/AGI, is more like a critical hit with a DMG: 230 weapon.

OP: I would say merit STR. It will help your MNK a lot more than DEX will, and it will help your THF about the same either way.

I'd go with STR just for all-around melee usefulness, but I wouldn't even consider starting in on stat merits until I'd maxed out job specific and tasty things like Crit.

I have mnk/thf/rng 75 and Ive done full str merits. Needless to say Im very happy with them.
