I'd take Ted Williams, because he didn't cheat. =P And no, I don't want any of that "Well I'd take Bonds before he cheated" because he did cheat, so it can't be removed from the discussion. To me, Bonds and his numbers don't exist.

Why do people think Bonds was clean his entire career? there's been numerous reports about guys like Mantle, Mays, Aaron using amphetamines and other substances, guys like Whitey Ford and Gaylord Perry used to scuff their balls in ways that aren't allowed now. Fact is, getting an edge has always been prevalent in this game.

I'm not defending ARod here, but he wasn't a hardcore duper like Mac and Canseco. Arlington Stadium (Texas' home ballpark) is probably the top-3 hitters park in the game (it was number one last year) so his retarded numbers during those three years wasn't mainly due to PED's. You don't enter the league as a 20 year old and finish second in the MVP race (should have won that one) due to roiding up as a teenager, the dude's always had monster talent.

The shit he took wasn't nearly as bad as the stuff Bonds, Mac, Sosa, etc were cooked up on, his Hall of Fame credentials took a hit, but he won't be barred from it.

Schilling mentioned earlier that he wouldn't be suprised the players went on strike after the current collective bargaining agreement expired.

He's not even saying what exactly he took. You have no idea how much they helped him compared to how much Bonds, McGuire, and Sosa were helped. The fact is, they all cheated and even though I'm a life-long Giants fan, they still all deserve to be barred from the HoF and have their records stripped. If this is true of those three, it's true of A-Roids too.

They'll all eventually get their place in the HoF. It'll be a group thing. A group of hundreds even.

Yeah, I can see how that happens, especially when the current generation of writers lose their votes. I wouldn't doubt they'd be put in with one giant Asterisk next to their group.

Also, the same goes for A-Rod. How do we know he didn't take shit in High School? Are we REALLY going to take his word for it right now, even if he lied already anyway? How do you lie to Katie Couric? How?! She's like.. awesome. He lied straight to her face. I don't buy s hit A-Rod is saying. D: He's just as much a cheater as Big Fake Mac, Sosa, and Bonds are. Period.

Even if he did, it's a huge fucking reach to say his '96 season was a product of PED's or if they even helped. He had a 1.036OPS as a 19 year old in AAA. If it was HGH, you might have an argument, but primobolan isn't gonna transform a lanky 20 year old into an MVP candidate.

How are so many people upset about something they don’t even understand?

Primobolan is also available in pill form, but it's way more fun to assume A-Rod used needles isn't it?It would make sense that those galloping in on their high-horses would want to have even a basic understanding of what Alex Rodriguez may have been using. Unfortunately they don’t.

Primobolan is an anabolic steroid. That part is true and is also the end of most people’s knowledge about it. All they have to hear is anabolic steroid and immediately it is assumed that this drug turns you into Popeye. Does anyone stop and look at A-Rod? Is he really that muscular? Is he really that jacked? To make a point; does he look anything at all like Bonds, Sosa, or McGwire? Or does he look exactly like most major league ball players?

To be fair, some writers did google primobolan and have noted it’s main characteristics. It’s very expensive and helps the user add muscle without bulking up. Now, what that means is that primobolan doesn’t force your body to retain water which causes noticeable bulking. Building muscle means you are getting bigger, but with primobolan you aren’t going to walk around looking like you’re carrying watermelons. Primobolan is also a fat-burner, sort of like taking Ripped Fuel but having it actually work. Primobolan is a favorite of competitive bodybuilders during their pre-contest routines because it allows them to become even more cut without sacrificing muscle. Basically, primobolan allows the user to gain muscle without changing their normal food consumption (it does this by telling your body to retain nitrogen which helps build muscle). However, the muscle gain is small which is why Primobolan is considered to be a weak steroid.

Basically, Alex Rodriguez took a steroid that made him as strong as he would have been if he were just going to the gym with the veracity that he reportedly does, with the difference being that instead of packing on pounds he was able to get bigger and remain cut. To put it bluntly, the advantage Rodriguez earned from primobolan was in sexiness, not in strength. I can’t wait to hear someone claim that sexiness leads to additional home runs."

I do not understand why the league just doesn't test the players every two weeks/month or whatever. All of them. I don' t care how expensive it is, baseball makes a shit ton of money and the leagues reputation is such shit right now they have to implement drastic measures. If this would be a problem with the players union, someone let me know as I am not sure. If it is a problem that is fucking ridiculous.

As far as this whole era goes, everyone hating on Bonds, Clemens, A-Rod, Sosa and McGuire, etc... need to look at the whole picture. To think that these massive performers are the only users in the game is ridiculous. To think that some players batting 8th and 9th on some teams aren't juicing is equally as ridiculous. It is all relative. Those who have the innate talent and ability to be all stars and take steroids and become mega stars are no different from those who would be AAA players and get bumped up to fill roster spots on the MLB. With that mentality, the entire league, every team, since the start of when this became prevalent, is compromised. Who are we to say that in game X of the world series during year X the homer that player X hit during the 9th to win the game was not in a way influenced by steroids. It is absolutely impossible to persecute everyone who is guilty thus doing it to a few and making them out to be the only ones is not far. Period. Were the rules broken? Yes, but there is no way to know how many of the players in the game broke them.

One of the main thing people complain about is records this, records that. Really? Records? You want to talk about unfairness in the MLB and it affecting potential records? Before the color barrier was broken in '47 the MLB was WHITE ONLY. Negro League players and their talents did not even affect the stats on the white players before the integration, white players like the beloved Babe Ruth. I don't see writers and people clamoring to complain that Ruth's records aren't as legitimate because of the segregation of the leagues, but how could they not be? How many great black players couldn't let their talents hit the record books for the those 40+ years?

I am not condoning steroid use, it is against the rules and a problem. However, just as guilty as those players abusing is the league not patrolling and allowing it. You think that the players didnt know McGuire, Sosa, and Bonds were juicing during their record streaks? They turned into incredible hulks to god's sake. The precedent was set that it could be gotten away with, especially when Mr. Selig and the league was getting high ratings and a fuck ton of money in return. Blame both sides equally, patrol it more thoroughly now, make the punishment more severe, and move on. If you want to put an asterisk, fine, but do it on both sides.

How is this not being an apologist?

Maybe if his ex-wife could suck his cock as well as you can he wouldn't have cheated on her.

But again, like assuming that you know the entire story regarding his PED usage, that would be rampant speculation.

Although you do appear to be quite good at choking on A-Rod's, well, rod.

There does seem to a bit of the A-Rod Apologist syndrome within your posts, fren. If this was someone else in the Majors, like Bonds.. or if A-Rod was on a team not named the Yankees, would you be defending him like this?

I was responding to the post made regarding Bonds saying he was clean his entire career; amphetamines and other substances used to get an edge isn't anything new in the sport.

I AM NOT CONDONING IT AT ALL. Get with the program you dumb sack of shit.

Because making a post where I'm not calling him a fucking moron (which he is) for taking PED's in the first place (which wasn't illegal back then) is defending him? You're (not just you) fucking ignorant if you think PED usage started within this century.

You made a post quoting a guy who claimed:
To put it bluntly, the advantage Rodriguez earned from primobolan was in sexiness, not in strength. I can’t wait to hear someone claim that sexiness leads to additional home runs.
How is that not saying "A-rod's steroids don't help him play baseball, so they should basically be ignored, he did nothing wrong when it comes down to it, he's not cheating."

Although however you respond, I can't understand you with all that A-Rod in your mouth.

    Brady Anderson Statistics - Baseball-Reference.com

Bonus points if you can figure out what year there is the outlier.
Because calling someone (even if it's not just me) names really helps your argument. Also, everyone knows about the whole Brady Anderson "holyshitwtf" year. I think steroids became rampant moreso in the 90's, yeah. In fact, it may have been helped along AFTER the Brady Anderson time. That dude was just a fucking idiot.

Still. You may not think of yourself as an A-Rod apologist, but you've said a few things that lead others to believe you are. Maybe you aren't just an A-Rod apologist, but a Yankee apologist in general.

The one thing that intrigues me about A-Rod is that his numbers have been pretty steady. Usually with steroids you see a sudden jump in production (Bond's late career 70 HR seasons, McGwire and Sosa hitting 60+, Brady Anderson's sudden 50HR season mentioned above, etc) but A-rod's production has been pretty steady throughout his career. To me that either means that A) he took steroids but not often enough to have much effect on his overall performance or B) he took them and is still taking them. Either way, something just doesn't add up.
