With no raid experience, just gotten to 70~80, and with just the basic equips could this guy and his friend join to your leet guild? Or would he be forced to join a shitty one because his gears aren't good enough for OS3 drakes? Don't take good guilds for granite, I'm sure there are 20 bad ones to each good..

Good players are good players, gear doesn't make the player. If the person has put sufficient effort into their gear and we have a spot for them they'll get in. I joined this guild as a fresh 70 with no WoW raiding experience at all, hadn't even stepped into a raid with a pug or other guild. I got the first Amani War Bear on my realm.

Can they put enough sufficient effort into their gear so that you'll accept them, without a need for raiding or pvping beforehand?

@PSU sucking: Very much. Here's the premise of it, there's about 3 main dungeons that have worthwhile exp and tiered levels of mobs so that you can do them forever. When I played before the first expansion even came out the currency had NO VALUE because of duping, they just pretended like GameGuard was a magical fix to everything, when in fact it will probably cause you crash for no reason if your system has anything newer than 2004 on it. I really doubt that duping was dealt with. To level up skills you have to do them over 9000 times, and if you're a mage just forget it, you will spend extensive time just leveling your skills if you ever want to cap them. Every MMO is a grind this one simply doesn't even try to disguise it in any way, all they care about is making money.

@Guild Wars: The amount of actual PvE content is just not there compared to other games UNLESS you like leveling a lot of characters. Depending how hard you grind you could go through the original PvE content in a month or less. The point of PvE is to gear your character for PvP, they aren't really as mutually exclusive as they are in WoW. They are also done with it for now, developing Guild Wars 2 as a full blown new game instead of continuing with the expansions. I'd look forward to that actually being a pretty good game when it comes out

I would give Aion a try (if it ever comes out), when it's group/world PvP it can be a lot more fun than you might think, especially if you'll mostly be leveling in a group with your friends you will be more safe from the kind of random ganks that can ruin your experience.

I can't comment myself but i've been told by a fair few of my friends who have raided hardcore at both 60 and 70 that the new 80 content isn't worth the money.

This is obviously only a few peoples opinions and if you go into the game fresh you wouldnt have a clue about the previous level caps so it wouldnt really effect you.

But i have to agree with the above. Wow's popular because its good solid addictive fun. Not to mention sexy elves.

Yes, putting effort into gear means enchants, gems and focus on the correct stats. It does not mean epics. If you walk around with unsocketed gear on your main you're not taking the game seriously enough.

Shouldn't be too hard to find a good guild if that's the case, then.

To OP though if you don't like pvp then War definitely isn't the game for you. But keep inmind, this isn't pvp in the sense of getting ganked by a random high lvl. This is truly war fights with 200+ people on both sides

This goes for every game to some degree as well. My WoW guild can clear almost all content in one raid night, and if not for our attempts at OS3 drakes (basically a "hard mode" encounter for phat loot) we'd have all content down in just a night and a half and the rest of the week is all free time. Fast content is far more enjoyable when it's "old" than stuff that takes you a while and that's how WotLK is so far, trash has been greatly reduced and it's not much of a pain to do content on farm.

You sound like you were in a terrible guild. There's no reason you have to be in a guild that raids daily...even in BC my guild still only raided 3 times a week, I'm sure that option is around on many realms too.
I didn't mean to seem like I was praising FFXI. I quit FFXI because I was tired of camping Fafnir/Nidhogg and losing it to some bastards with a bot.

Anyway, I wasn't with a horrible guild. I was with a guild ranked in the top 100 world wide. It's just that we tried to do so much content throughout the week that we literally played 5 nights a week. MC, BWL, and AQ full clears each week, plus learning Naxx bosses and still running ZG and AQ20s each week almost. When I transferred to Rexxar, yeah.. Those guys were horrible because the fights in SSC and TK required such coordination that we were literally stuck on Vashj for almost a month and Vael? I don't know. They were on him for almost 3 weeks but I quit after the first because I didn't want to go through all that stupid "learning" again and have it wipe each time because ONE person did something wrong.

I haven't even attempted WotLK end-game. And in all honesty, FFXI has become much more casual friendly end-game wise since I quit 3 years ago, but not by leaps and bounds...

Except, you know, WoW is a DaoC clone which was made by the same company that made WarhammerOnline. And DaoC is a clone of Ultima Online....which is also owned by the same company. (EA gave Mythic UO in the late 90s)
Not really. I'm talking mostly in terms of gameplay. I don't know about DAOC, but UO? UO is more of an online Diablo. I mean, if you want to go nuts, you can even say WoW is a clone of Madden because it copied this game which copied that game... Keep going and you'll link it somehow. However from looking at videos of DAOC, Warhammer is more like WoW than WoW is like DAOC. Even the UI is almost the same. I'm not trying to say WoW is better than Warhammer as I only played it briefly (Like two nights) because I honestly felt like I was playing WoW.

I'm not big in to MMOs anymore because of FFXI and WoW. I play FFXI, but I've basically limited my play time to BST and Einherjar. I don't even log on every day.

I love killing people There's objectives n' such that the video doesn't show (also non pvp aspects: quests/dungoens/etc). Those are just some of the huge battles we have had. I find them really fucking fun. XD

Wow, looks even more like WoW than I originally thought.

Either way, I'll probably try it if there's a free demo.

The level 80 raids right now are just the starting raids of the expansion, so, they are fairly easy, and most can pretty much be pug'd. The achievements make them more difficult, but the rewards for achievements are mostly just titles/mounts/bragging rights. If you like those, great, if not, the expansion right now is fairly meh. And I don't know much about the PVP right now, since I don't PVP at all. >.>

I caught my sister talking to her friend about Gaia online. I had to stop that shit fast before she ended up in some Krye post.

LOTRO is really fun with friends, I found the community a bit lacking relative to WoW/FFXI, hence why friends can help make stuff easier but it's PvE is easily on par with FFXI. It can feel like a bit of a WoW clone but they have an interesting Skillchain system that is sort of reminiscent of FFXI also it does not have the cartoony feel of WoW which can get annoying, but at maxed settings the graphics in it are fucking amazing, and getting to explore all the stuff from the books is a big plus. The PvP component as mentioned is really cool as well, and you can completely avoid it if you want. There is some endgame stuff, its just not as central to the game like it is in WoW or FFXI.

this... I don't remember how they did TBC (cuz i started playing then) but they seem to be taking the FFXI approach in releasing WotLK content. You know a little at the time and building up to the final encounter... like Blizz said themselves, the don't want Arthas on farm status by the first month

But yeah i used to hate wow... "I'll never play WoW, too cartoony, dont want to be kiled by high level 12 year-olds, etc." And then i got a trial account a few days before the release of TBC... And here i am, lvl 80 Doing 10 and 25 man naxx on a PvP realm...
so give it a shot, wo'nt hurt to atleast play the game before judging it

also... imo getting a good guild will make your experience in WoW much better, i "quit" WoW for a while because my guild broke but now i'm back and in a guild with a small group of people who i enjoy playing with, even though we are not progressing much and wipe a LOT.
