First things first: You can't take any two things you find in the zombie Vegas landscape of Dead Rising 2 and turn them into a weapon. But there are still plenty of weapon-crafting options in the upcoming action title.
The latest gameplay sizzle revealed for Dead Rising 2 is the ability to collect design schematics in the game and then take them back to a workshop and craft fun new weapons, like a bucket crowned with power drills or a lawnmower turned into a two-handed zombie blender.
Both, actually most, weapons result in zombie chum.
My time playing the game last week kicked off with a visit to the workshop. On the table rested two chainsaws and a kayak paddle. Pressing a button kicked off a short animation that had Chuck Greene strapping the saws to the paddle to create a paddle saw.
It was a short animation, but unfortunately, it sounds like you'll have to watch it every time you create the saw. And that saw, as with all of your weapons, eventually wears down.
Back on the fictional Santa Cabeza's strip I paddle saw my way upstream through the river of zombies that greets me. Eventually, the chugging chainsaws run down and I hustle my way down the walking-dead crowded strip heading to the Pawn Shop.
The Pawn Shop has a collection of these crafted weapons already made, for a price. I pick up a Tesla Ball, which I can bowl into zombies to electrify them. Thrilling.
Next I head over to an adult store on the strip, picking up a pink "massager" and changing my outfit into something a bit more alluring. Almost-assless chaps. But I don't like the look, so I change Greene into a mesh shirt.
Back on the strip, I lay into the zombies with my massager, until I accidentally toss it at a zombie stripper.
Returning to the Pawn Shop I pick up a pair of boxing gloves with knives strapped to them. The weapon lets me claw my way through the crowd of zombies outside with a series of roundhouses.
I stumble into a nearby peepshow, Greene disappears for a few seconds, returning with a smile on his face and health recovered.
I try picking up an over-sized squirt gun, but the streams of water seem to just tick the zombies off.
I wrap up my timed-run through Santa Cabeza by picking up a modified lawnmower at the Pawn Shop. Heading outside I walk up to an obese zombie and hold in the attack button. Greene lifts the running mower over the zombie's head and pushes down, blending the creature into a thick red soup.
While you can't invent your own weapons in Dead Rising 2, you can try discovering some of the combos without having the schematics by bringing different items into your workshop and experimenting.
Other weapons I saw crafted included adding gas to that ineffective watergun to turn it into a flamethrower and strapping nails to the outside of a propane tank to create a bomb.
Wise from your gwave.

Breathe deep and call a pal... it’s zombie hunting time. Yes, in addition to the already revealed competitive multiplayer, Dead Rising 2 will feature full two-player cooperative play through the game’s entire main story.
Here are the basics, and it’s pretty straight forward: During any time, a second player can be invited to join a game in progress. Each player will control the game’s main protagonist, Chuck Greene, and any kind of continuity or logic gets thrown out the window in lieu of pure fun. The story doesn’t change, as the missions and game layout will remain identical whether you’re playing alone or with a friend. But make no mistake about it -- killing zombies and saving survivors with a buddy is a hell of a lot more fun (and safer) when you do it with a friend.
The name of the game here with Dead Rising 2 co-op has less to do with making any sense from a narrative standpoint, and more to do with all of the crazy sh*t you could only do with a second Chuck Greene at your side. According to Blue Castle, all kinds of new gameplay emerges when two players are thrown into the Dead Rising 2 sandbox, and this was very easily proven during a short hands-off demo, and later when I got my hands on the controller.
An example had one Chuck using a fire extinguisher to freeze zombies; once frozen, a second player could drop kick or hit the frozen ghoul with a bat to shatter it to pieces. In another example, we saw some strategy as one player collected items and weapons, while another spent time fighting off the hordes.
It also seemed as if Blue Castle had added many game moments and interactive environmental objects that simply screamed co-op. While playing the game alone, I struggled to fight off two homicidal twin Vegas showgirls; with a second player having my back, sending them to their grave was not only easier, but a lot more enjoyable. A giant interactive video poker machine in the middle of a casino was nearly unusable alone -- I kept getting hassled by flesh-hungry zombies while trying to win big. With a second player, I was able to focus on my gambling addiction without the worries of a creature gnawing on my face.
From what I could tell, the cooperative mode was not really limited in any real way. Yes, the entire game can be played with a second player who can drop in and drop out at any time, with the host “owning” the game. This means that whoever starts the game will be the owner of the save file and the story; the second player can participate and advance, but once he or she leaves, their earnings will only be in the form of in-game money and any PP (experience) points earned.
Players aren’t tethered to one another within areas, with one caveat -- certain story elements (like those beyond doors) cannot be triggered unless both players are within a certain distance. Before the aforementioned Vegas showgirl battle could begin, I had to wait patiently for my partner to get bored using a vacuum/saw blade combo elsewhere in the casino before I could move forward. As you can imagine, that could take awhile. Because honestly, when does anyone really get bored using a vacuum/saw blade combo?
Cooperative play was the big Dead Rising 2 reveal at Captivate, but producer Keiji Inafune says there are “more scoops” yet to be revealed. Unfortunately, he tells us, “press restrictions” are keeping him from spilling the beans. Damn you, “press restrictions” -- how about a date with my vacuum/saw blade combo?
Dead Rising 2 hits shelves on August 31; expect more “scoops” to come out of E3.
I came a little.
Best decision they could make with the game and I can't wait to enjoy it.
I came twice.

As the title states, Capcom has partnered up with Playboy for the upcoming Dead Rising 2! As part of this partnership, in game billboards and ads will feature covers of selected issues from throughout Playboy's history. Capcom, a leading worldwide developer and publisher of video games, today confirmed that it has partnered with Playboy magazine to have content from the iconic publication featured in its forthcoming title Dead Rising® 2, scheduled for release later this year for the Xbox 360®, PlayStation®3 and PC platforms.
Players that discover the Playboy magazine in the game will receive a unique and special upgrade for Chuck Greene, the main character in Dead Rising 2. Furthermore, players will come across Playboy ads and billboards that will feature specially selected issues from the magazine’s 57-year history.
The new magazine system for Dead Rising 2, which will feature Playboy along with various other publications, is an evolution of the popular book system from the original Dead Rising game. Along with the special Playboy issue, there will be a variety of different themed magazines that Chuck will be able to pick up for bonuses to use to help fend off the zombie hordes along the way. “The Sin City-type environment in Dead Rising 2, Fortune City, is a natural playground for the Playboy Bunnies,” said Seon King, Senior Director of Licensing for Capcom Entertainment, Inc. “We have integrated the Playboy brand throughout the game in ways that bring even more life to Fortune City and add to the user experience.”
I'm still very much looking forward to this as I loved the original. I just hope giving it to a western developer doesn't fuck it up like the last few attempts. Bionic Commando sucked, Silent Hill was trash, Dark Void blew, just hope they do this one some justice.
I better be able to put chuck in the bunny suit

I saw someone playing this and it left me very underwhelmed.
Case Zero next month, and it's only 5 bucks, which seems plenty reasonable.
inb4 bitching about exclusive dlcDead Rising 2: Case Zero, the game that fills in the gaps between the original zombie action game and the sequel, hits the Xbox 360 exclusively on Aug. 31, Capcom confirmed today.
The downloadable game will cost 400 Microsoft Points and introduces players to Dead Rising 2's hero Chuck Greene. And that's a price that's not making Capcom any money, according to Keiji Inafune, Capcom's Head of R&D Management Group and Executive Producer for Dead Rising 2.
"We're not making any money on this," Inafune said during today's Comic-Con panel for the game. "I went against the company's wishes and went for the 400 MSP price point"
"With Dead Rising 2: CASE ZERO we had two goals: provide newcomers with an easy point of entry to the Dead Rising universe, and give fans of the series an insight into what took place after Frank West survived the outbreak at the Willamette Mall," Inafune said in a prepared statement. "We have certainly achieved both of these ambitions but I am equally pleased that we are able to give gamers so much unique and entertaining content at such a great price."
Dead Rising 2: Case Zero takes place two years after the events of the original Dead Rising and three years before the beginning of Dead Rising 2. In the prequel, Greene is trapped in the zombie-infested desert town of Still Creek with his infected daughter, Katey.
The prequel will give players access to Greene's weapon-building skills. Players who buy the prequel will also be able to carry over character attributes earned such as ‘Player Level', to a maximum of five, ‘Prestige Points' alongside skills, ‘Combo Cards' and a number of alternate outfits.
Game is going to be terrible and bitching about 25 minutes of DLC is going to be silly.
Silly yes, but this is the internet. You forget how entitled people think they are. Someone on FB was trying to start a boycott.
Also since you've had some hands on time with it (I think?) what's so bad about it? it looks like the same kinda goofy/stupid/slightly awesome fun of the first one only no camera system
I saw it in June, and it was extremely unpolished and just overall was boring to me. From what I played it just didnt feel like they improved upon the first enough to justify calling this a sequel. I played the first one and thought it was ok, and this is just more of the same. Unless they've done alot in a few months I personally wont be worrying with the game.
If you want a zombieesque game that is fun, play crackdown 2 or continue to play Left 4 Dead 2.
played/playing both of those (can't wait for Keys to the City 2), but I loved the first DR, so even if it's just 'more of the same' it's worth at least a rental to me or a buy if I can get it cheapish.
More of the same, fixing some of the issues and wanting co-op is exactly what people want. I see nothing wrong with this so far, but I obviously haven't had a chance to play it. Won't be picking up the DLC though, I doubt it'll be long enough to justify that price and if I decide I suddenly care about the plot in my mindless zombie killan I can just youtube it.
dunno if it's new info, but I jsut noticed that preorder at gamestop gives a ninja outfit
