Questions about cell phone

I recently bought a cell phone (first in a long time). Its a Samsung camera phone/mp3 players with micro SD slot. Is there a way to get ring tones without purchasing the internet service from the provider. Can they be placed on SD card and used from there as rings. If you can, whats a good program to edit music with to make short ring tones, if there is a way?

Most if not all modern mobile (cell) phones now should support Mp3 ringtones, especially if yours has a micro SD slot which suggests to me it should have a Mp3 player somewhere.

How about you give us the model number and we can tell you right off the bat? On a side note, searching for ringtones on the internet is suicide. But it is more than likely possible to make your own and place them on the card, but I would think mp3 ringtones should be better.

I never understood the purpose of a ring tone outside of the classic "ring ring" (and various different ones). It's so fucking retarded that if you put a ringtone on there of a 5 minute song you're only going to hear the first 5 seconds of it. The rest will serve to annoy or will get cut off after 30~ seconds anyway. I don't see the point. And then some get embarassed about it.

Samsung SCH r500. I can put Mp3's on it and listen to them. I want separate ring tones for each person i contact and the default ones the phone comes with are sad and embarrassing.

A quick google search turns up nothing unfortunately, but you may be able to scrounge something up, or someone here may have more information. If your phone doesn't have the ability to simply pick an mp3 and use it as a ringtone (which most do these days) then normally you are able to add the file into your phone via PC into the folder it keeps its ringtones, and 'trick' the phone into thinking you can use it- sometimes it requires you converting the file format (I've had to do this with my previous two phones)

However, I normally find out how, and what formats, via google, and like I said, unfortunately no luck for this particular phone.
