    Retaliation in Salvage

While skilling up I've been parsing Retaliation rate at about 40% with 2h weapon, 50% with 1h or h2h, which is significantly higher than Counter. It sounds like a lot of people have a MNK charge into a room on the first floor and just tank everything for faster kills due to counters; anyone tried doing that with WAR?

Retaliation procs are nice but you have to take damage in order to retaliate. Not to say that isn't a problem on first floor, but it's different from a mnk who evades the hit to counter. With weapon and abil's right away though, makes for some nice fast kills on the first floor.

We always bring my WAR and a MNK into Salvage, and I get the first weapon & ability in most zones, keep Retaliation up, tanking as much as my voke+damage allows me to (meaning if the MNK takes hate I don't do anything besides keep DDing)

The first floor mobs hit like pansies anyway, it's not a problem unless someone Silences a Ziz and they go chuck norris on me.

Yes. I was thinking about posts saying that counterstance isn't a good idea for tanking the whole Hammerblow room; is that the only situation where you wouldn't use it on 1F?

Yea everything else even w/o phal is fulltime CS'able. I do dmg mitigation build to supertank the hammerblow room.

Retaliation is absurd is salvage for the added damage and the TP you get. Our group rolls with only two typical melees, me on WAR and a MNK; I tank everything with Retaliation up for at least the first floor of every zone.

Retaliation is arguably better than counter because everything hits for fail damage, yet you get TP for each retaliation.

This, getting hit by the 1f (and a lot of other) mobs for 20-30 damage and hitting them in return for 200+ is pure win, certainly helps speed things up and taking that low damage isn't causing us any downtime.

Have a blu or sch stoneskin your WAR, or phalanx it up. Retaliation procs even on 0 dmg hits, so basically you deal damage while getting hit for nothing and get TP in the process. WAR/SAM is a beast for the lower lvls.

You can also Retaliate against mobs that you aren't engaged with, provided you are facing them. I like to voke the next mob and ask that the mages don't sleep em, this way I Retaliate, deal damage to the next mob in line and get TP at the same time. The rate of retaliate against the 1st lvl mobs in salvage is hella high for some reason.

Retaliation also kicks in on shield blocks.

Your Acc vs Mob Acc + what seems like some Def related check.

I seem to retaliate a lot more with protect/defender/turtle gear on, against Ep+ mobs which have a good hit rate on me. Switching to empty fist/shield against a DC yag, I barely retaliated at all, roughly in line with my horrible hit rate (low hth skill), so it's roughly like counter in the acc/acc checks.

Joy or Ridill+ Shield is silly, I like to get a ton of mobs on me sometimes, just to watch the hundred stabs action.

All of this about the ownsauce of retaliation is true. The TP and damage it gives is amazing when mobs barely hurt you. My favorite use of it tho would have to be on the Dormant Ramparts in Bhaflau.

I rarely use it. I hate running slow in salvage, because I'm generally the one provoking the next monster, and falling behind will make me miss 1 attack cycle (which mean 3 hits).

I know you can click it off, but it won't be up for the next 2min30, and activating the move itself will make you miss half of an attack cycle.

There is a few rooms/situations where it's useful, but in overall, I don't think it benefit me much.
