Need some BG medical advice for a respiratory problem

Since my physician is a complete bitch, I figured before I go and torture myself with her presence I'd ask you BG doctors if you know what may be the problem I'm having.

Lately, for the past couple of months I've had a really hard time breathing. I'm getting air and all, but I feel like I constantly need to take extra large breaths in order to get the amount that I feel is right. It happens more so at night, and if I'm just breathing I have to just kind of gulp in air or I feel like I don't have enough in my system. I'm not sure how to describe it exactly, but that's my main problem. It's really annoying and I have no idea what the problem is. I was thinking maybe asthma but I'm not really sure what that is other than people having a hard time breathing, and on top of that I thought you were born with it and don't catch it or whatever.

Anyways, any help is greatly appreciated. I'll probably go to my see my doctor soon enough about this anyway because it seems like it could manifest into something more serious but I figured I'd ask you guys first. Thanks boys and girls.

Asthma/Allergies are the most likely culprit. Oral steroids (Inhaler) is probably the solution they'll offer for you. Asthma is definitely something you can develop over time from poor air quality.

How old are you? My mum had similar problems and it was due to the heart/blood pressure problems. No one is the family is asthmatic.

I'm not sure but I thought asthma was genetic, i.e. you can't just get it all of a sudden midway through your life?

I'm 21, and I know that my dad and little brother have inhalers but not sure if they have asthma. Inhaler = asthma?

You can develop Asthma at any point in your life. There can be many factors that contribute to a breathing problem; environment you live in, overall fitness level, eating habits, whether you hang out with smokers or not, etc. Some times consequences from any of these just take longer to manifest. Improving any, or all, of these will most likely improve your breathing.

However, you should still go see your doctor despite what anyone tells you on here.

More or less, yea. There is a pretty wide variance in the severity and causes of each individual case of it. It isn't only genetic or only caused by your environment and it can definitely onset at any time during your life, though there are certain risk factors like living in a smoggy city, second hand smoke exposure, allergens. Its the diabeetus of the lungs/airways.

I only really have pollen allergies and lately they haven't bothered me at all, and even when I do get really allergy-ey I've never felt like my air was being clogged. I'll ask my dad tomorrow if he has asthma and then try to make a doctor appointment with dr. asshole. Doctors shouldn't be mean unless they're on House

it's probably best to go see the bitch doctor to be sure? it could be anything really, too difficult to pinpoint a symptom like that out.

When was the last time you cleaned your air vents for your home AC? If you have a real old system, you might need a new one. A lot of people don't realize what is being pumped back into their house from dirty/old AC systems.

I live in an apartment building and have never checked the AC vents or anything like that.

My diagnosis is that you have a shitty doctor and I prescribe you getting a new one. Once you get a new doctor who doesn't suck ass, you can ask him/her about your problem and you will get expert medical advice.

But yes, at first blush I, in my non-medical opinion for which I cannot get sued, think that asthma is a distinct possibility. Only way to find out for sure is to get a better doctor, and even then you may have to go to a specialist.

Change doctors if you're feeling uncomfortable with them. You're not obligated to see them, and if you don't support them but still go to them, you're giving them your money which gives the wrong message.

That is my advice to you. If you're feeling "Disloyal" to your doctor by changing, I shall refer you to the episode of Seinfeld where Jerry feels the same way about changing barbers.

I've only been to see my doctor twice, and once she was VERY pregnant so I just figured she was hormonal and didn't worry about it. The second time was almost a year after and she was just as bitchy as before and I felt completely uncomfortable even asking her about anything. I'm not even sure if it's a hassle to change doctors but I wouldn't mind changing to not have to go to her anymore...

    if you smoke, don't

also yeah, get the vents cleaned, air quality in your residence checked, allergy tests, asthma etc, and be sure to note when the symptoms are present (near cats/dogs, after a walk up-hill, or all the time)

    and surprisingly...

I heard anal bleaching also fixes respiratory issues in some women.

Ah! Someone with the same problem! I went to my doctors complaining of the very same symptoms about a year ago. Always felt like my chest wouldn't expand properly. Not to the point where i felt like i couldn't breathe, more so that i just struggled to get enuff air in there.
Noticed it when i picked up karate again. Then I noticed that when i took a breath and twisted my hips, my air intake increased. Odd huh.

So anyway. I goes to see my doc and he gives me one of those things where you measure your lung capacity for a bit. In the beginning it was really low, so she prescribed me a non-asthmatic inhaler for exercise. Afaik, it just makes your lungs open up a bit more so your not struggling when working out. I use it now and again but not as often.

She'll prolly have you do this inhaling/measuring thing (I forget the gd proper name) until either your results improve or they start to get concerned that its something else. Could be asthma mebs iono. Just go see her and get it sorted and if shes a cow, punch her in the ovaries.

Yeah this is EXACTLY what I feel like. I also talked to my dad and he said that he does have asthma as well as my little brother and they both have inhalers for it. You guys are real quick with the replies, thanks alot I feel a little relieved now, minus the having to go to the doctor part.

On-campus doctor has got to have some semblance of social agility, considering they work with students daily, if you don't like your doctor. I went to my on-campus doctor to find out I needed glasses, they're good for little stuff like this and just getting an idea if you need to do something about it.

Hehe i can relate to how you feel. I always do that shit thing where you look up all the illnesses related with it online and make yourself panic even more ¬_¬ Iono why i do it, i'm a natural worrier i guess.
Do you do much exercise? I found that if i do a little each day it increases your capacity and makes you feel a whole load better. Doesn't have to be omgi'mdying exercise, just a jog around the block or summat. Will do you the world of good.
