Don't stay in one spot, at least make a small circle. I don't range far and wide, but I try to make a large (4-5 paces across) circle.
How many items you dig up doesn't depend just on your rank, but also on how many other people are in the zone. Many zones (all the good ones) are dug out most of the time (at least on Midgar).![]()

Thank you for these links
I have been reading the 1st thread you mention in the last few days, and already learnt a lot of things...I'm now trying to get more informations on the nerfs and updates done on digging, to decide if I should give it a try or not...
If anyone is interested in a chocobo digging parser let me know
I have one that is simple...Created a long time ago but still works.
There is a few quirks with it you have to do in order to clear the list, but
other than that it still works fine. If enough are interested i'll post.
I just dug up my first elem ore at A30 yesterday, I was surprised as hell, didn't expect to see one before A20 or so and I wasn't even paying attention to moonphase or weather.
Digging is my absolute favorite thing to do when I've got less than an hour or so before bedtime and I'm not exping or doing some event already. It's not an amazing source of gil but between digging and gardening as my main sources of income I'm rarely in need of gil. I've always go whm/blm and teleport around til I find zones that aren't dug up, altep is almost always barren, but lately the jungles have been more rewarding. I usually dig in a path from zone to zone, as almost any zone will get dug up fairly quickly with one or two diggers. Being able to hop off and teleport or warp/OPwarp is very very helpful.
No you're right, I shoulda screen'd it then another with my /dig macro in the next zone. After my initial excitement wore off I checked on wiki again and was surprised to find that getting one before A20 was virtually unheard of. I wouldn't have even mentioned it unless someone in the first page hadn't already said they got their first early as well.
Either way, it sold on ffxiah on trismule - valefor, I can only assure you I have no other way of getting elem ores.
edit: in my earlier thread, by gardening I meant wildgrass seeds exclusively.
Well, I have no screenshot but my first Ore came also @ A30 but of course feel free to trust me.
I wasn't looking for them, dug it by "accident"

Yep with a lot of luck A30 is the first tier you can get one but its really really difficoult, I had my first at A25 but one friend that raised digging almost at the same pace that me got one at A30.
Never heard getting one earlier than that.
Can you clear this thread from any cheats please? All happy diggers here will aggree cheats completley destroyed digging, turning it from an activity more profitable than any lv 100 craft, to a decent money farming one...
Only thing I can figure out that he's referring to is someone requesting an app to count how many items you've dug up...
I wish SE would remove the inventory counter at the top of your screen while viewing inventory, mog house, etc. People that are too lazy to scroll through their items and count themself are cheating!
Just tried digging up an ore... Fail.Feel like I should have spent my time elsewhere digging up other stuff that would have netted me profit anyway. Oh well.
Edit: Though I did just HQ one of the black rocks into a deathstone. That kinda pays off![]()
How can I tell if a zone is completely dug up? Like, after how many consecutive digs with no results should I give up? I just started digging a few days ago, so I'm only A60.
Edit: One additional question while I'm at it. I've been digging almost exclusively in Tahrongi Canyon to try to skill up. Is there a better place for me to go at this rank?
If I get 4-5 failed digs in a row, I go to another zone. However, you're low enough level I'm not sure if that would apply to you (sorry!).
You could try the newbie zones as well. Few people dig there, so you have more chance to get stuff = more chance to skill.
That's my opinion as well. I'd rather go somewhere else and get overall better stuff than to dig in a sucky zone in hopes of getting an ore.
