I started raising a new chocobo the same day that I started digging... So, it'll be a while before I can get Bore and Burrow.![]()
Max 2 abilities I believe.
From what I remember hearing, seems rather rare (maybe impossible) that you get a chick born with two abilities. Usually it gets one from the parents, and you have to teach it the other with the appropriate story.
TF + Bore is how I set up my bird, but if you're just starting out in digging, I'd recommend a Burrow/Bore bird. More items dug up = more chances to skill up.
I am currently working on raising a Bore/Treasure finder choco. I can't whistle him yet, as he's only an adolescent, but today I finally got this:

Still need to work on getting the Bore story (I'm raising him from Bastok, so it'll take a bit longer, as I don't have long walks yet.)
And yes, his name is ZippyStardust-- Bowie fans might see some amusement in this.
Question for the more experienced diggers out there:
I've raised my own chocobo giving it both Burrow and Bore. In a few days of digging since learning bore, I've yet to pull up a single bore item. Only burrow and regular. I'm beginning to worry as I raised this chocobo exclusively for Bore for my bonecrafting.
I'm wondering if the two abilities don't stack. Anyone have both and able to pull both pools of items? It might just be that I'm too low a skill still (A50) to pull the Bore items for now, but some peace of mind that I didn't ruin this raised chocobo by teaching it burrow would be nice.
Edit: Never mind, today I finally pulled up several Bore items.
Man, hating the grey area for when you can level up. I'm sitting at 1412 stacks used as an A35. Really wish SE wasn't so secretive about stupid shit like this. Thinking "tonight is the night" for a week and a half is getting old. But it's better than waiting for salvage dorps.
I'm thoroughly confused about my current digging rank. According to the wiki, Initiate rank has a 50 second zone wait time, and a 6 second dig time. I currently have a 50 second zone wait time and a 0 second dig wait time.

BTW, the macro I used was:
/echo dig
/wait 42
/dig
/wait 5
/dig
I'm a little confused by this. Is that 1412 stacks total, or 1412 since you level'd from A40 > A35 ? I hope it's not the latter, cause that would be extremely high. Hopefully, you're doing Hot & Cold and using a raised bird to help your dig accuracy. Though I do know the feeling...I'm wondering how much it's going to take to get my next level. I know I'm not there, but I'm getting to the point where I should be getting close.
1412 from A35 to A30....So far. Well 1430 now. I don't have a raised bird. I use a rental at Kazham or Yhoat crystal. My 100 items/day usually takes me about 18 stacks if the zones aren't dug up, and they usually aren't when I dig. I think with the Burrow/Bore traits on birds, someone should recount how long it takes to level up digging by counting items dug up instead of stacks of greens used.
A question for you guys/gals with Burrow/Bore birds, how many stacks of greens does it take you to hit your 100 item limit normally?
It usually only takes 11-12 stacks to hit fatigue. Now I was /a10 before raised birds came about, so I don't know how much of that is due to high level and how much is due to just having a raised choc. But I usually buy 13 stacks and always have some left over.
Of course, I don't dig in deserts either. Out there probably 200 stacks to hit limit. I kid.....a little....
With my burrow/bore bird, it takes about 10-11 stacks of greens to hit fatigue if my zone isn't dug up. But my digging skill is capped. Didn't have the bird when I was leveling up, used a rental for that.
I would really suggest raising a bird then. Even outside of having Bore/Burrow, if you get the top rating in discernment & receptivity, it seems to greatly increase your dig accuracy. I'm not logged in to get the exact numbers, but that same stage took me less than half the number of stacks it is taking you. I can't remember is I started tracking @ A45 or A40 right now, but it was at least half that, possibly even lower than a third of what it's taking you. And it only took me 12-14 stacks to reach cap if the zones weren't dug up. Granted, I rarely missed a day of digging to cap back then, and I do Hot & Cold every single day that I dig also; we don't know how much H&C success influences digging skillups, but there's certain evidence to suggest it can be rather large (i.e. skipping the W16 stage altogether over a 30-60 day H&C period).
