You'll get the occasional fatass twat trying to lose weight and completely fuck up your groove though. It's like delivering a baby, just don't look toward the mess and you'll be fine.
I work at a bar, so normally I hit the gym around 3:30 AM. Half the time I'm the only one there for an hour, so I can switch the TVs to FSC and watch some football match high lights. Most of the time I love working out alone, don't have to even pretend to care how I'm looking. But, I will admit I do look forward to sundays. Then I usually go in the middle of the afternoon and just get on the treadmill for an hour and enjoy all the scenery.

I'll reinforce the other people that gave the opinion of easing into things and stretching. I always got Achilles tendinitis when I ran track if I didn't ease into things a few weeks before the practice season started.

Some people argue about the usefulness of stretching, but I seem to have less problems if I stretch the muscles involved before doing any type of cardio.

This. Also, make sure you are hydrated and stretch properly (more or less 30 seconds per muscle group being used).

Cool, well thanks for the tips guys. Maybe I'll tag along with my roommate when he goes to the gym for a few weeks.

I would recommend light weight high rep squats and also light weight high rep leg press. Add in stadiums if you can get access to a track.

I'll just preemptively cover some bases before I go to sleep.

How do you people who run all the time have tiny thighs?

I used to run, play football (sawkker), and field hockey as a kid and skate for years and my thighs are fucking huge from it. (Well, one of them, the other wasted away thanks to surgery).

Thanks for asking about thigh workouts though, just recently joined a gym and now I know what/how to work on them.

Yeah, gotta say this again: squats. Not the leg press machine. Squats. Free weight if possible, not a smith machine.

I'm a tool, I just realised what you two were talking about.
I remember I used to bike a lot and I went to a biking camp one week in my teens. It started
to rain after we got started and we had like 72kms to go that day. Man.. I had chapped
nipples for like a week. It was not pleasant.

Squats <3 ... Most importantly they'll get you about 8 inches or so on your vertical leap!
    (Oh, fuck dates)

Start with what you can handle.
My work has a trainor come very day on our lunch hour to do a short exercise
routine. The guy we have come on Tuesday has a pretty leg intensive workout.
I did his routine the first week and couldn't walk the next day. After I recovered, I
did extra squats in the morning and at night before bed and now I have no problems
    with them anymore.

Just start out with what you can do and be patient. After you find it too easy, add
more to it and you'll be doing large quantities with less effort in no time at all.

I started with 10 Squats in the morning after getting up and 10 at night before going to
    bed. Within 2 weeks I was doing 20. That's where I stopped because I don't feel I need
to have to do more than that at a time.

Is there really that big a difference between a leg press and free-weight squats for building leg muscle?

There is simply no other exercise, and certainly no machine, that produces the level of central nervous system activity, improved balance and coordination, skeletal loading and bone density, muscular stimulation and growth, connective tissue stress and strength, psychological demand and toughness, and overall systemic conditioning as the correctly performed full squat.

You cant just simply go to full hardcore excersice after a long period of lazzynes

You need to start little by little, each week add more weight, time, etc...

You body need to get used to it...

Agreed. There's no reason he can't squat with just an empty barbell to get the motions down etc.

Honestly, I'd hire a trainer for an hour and have him show you the ins and outs, or go see a physical therapist specializing in sports meds.
