Protecting indoor network cables

[Correction]

I ran 25ft. worth of ethernet from where my router sits to my xbox a year or so ago, and it has disintegrated from all the foot traffic on the carpets it sat under.

I have a roll of this shit to work with:

but I don't really like this stuff because it doesn't stay flat very well and is still easy to trip over. I require a solution that lets me keep the wire indoors (no drilling, no running external cable), out of sight and protected. It has to run across two 3 ft. spans before it reaches my entertainment center, and I'm not keen on buying 50ft. worth of copper to staple it to mouldings and around doors. I'm just looking for the best way to protect my cables that run along the floor indoors.

Any BG technophiles have experience with alternatives? Keep in mind that I have hardwood floors and I'm not allowed to drill holes in the wall. Anything that would leave a mark like double-sided tape is right out.

Maybe you can try a wireless adapter? Other than that I don't know anything better than what you have there.

Wow, that must be some heavy traffic. I really cannot see that happening. Why not replace it and stay as you are? If it takes a year for it to disintegrate, I assume.

Obvious solutions are to:

• Put it underneath the floorboards
• Run it along the skirting boards (either ontop of the lip, visible, or underneath the carpet at the edge)
• Get a wifi adapter for your Xbox

You could also run it inside the wall, but that's quite a job unless you're a plasterer and have some spare paint to cover up the gaping holes you make in your walls.

Roll that shit in reverse to make it stay flatter before putting it down and then I would put a rug or something over it to keep it covered/flat if you are able to.

Copper is cheap (especially if you terminate your own ends), just buy the extra cable and wiremold it around the walls >_>

There is plastic conduit that mounts to the wall with either double sided tape or nails, your choice of how/where to mount it if you can't get the wire run in the wall.

Another option is nylon sleeving for the patch cable, the next step after that would be a braided metal sleeving.

The best choice is the plastic conduit (in my opinion).

The only option you have left yourself is to buy a heavy duty cat5 cable. It is going to be cheaper for you to buy a regular old 500FT Box of CAT5E 350 MHZ Cable, then to buy 500 or 100ft of the Heavy Duty jacketed shit.

I've your Walls are white, just get white jacketed cable and fuck the conduit.

If you have the option of covering it with carpet, there is a flat cat5 cable that is made specifically for that purpose. My company doesn't make it though, one of my customers does I can check my emails from last year and see who the hell it was.

Oh god flat Cat5 would be the sex as far as terminating the ends. If it's anything like phone cables anyways.

Taperwire was the company. The cable has an adhesive back that you stick to the floor, that way it won't move around under the carpet either.

The taperwire shit is on the expensive side. You could accomplish the same thing by stripping the cat5 jacket entirely, and basically run the conductors between heavy duty tape. If the bottom tape is double sided, you have the adhesive backing there also.
