I so wish this issue would die.

At least 2,000 players knew about this hack. What? 10 gm calls or emails.

Forums knew about this hack. What? Zero questions about the hack at fanfest or interviews.

The first thread pops up about the November maintenance. What? The first 10 pages are from BG posters asking that no one spill the beans.

Personal ownership. We control what we do, not what others do.

Always funny when people use the term in error.

I am not claiming any moral high ground nor being arrogant. Just stating facts not opinions.

The 99% of the player base that did not know about the hack is in the same boat I am. I'm not saying we are better, although certainly some of the 99% would have sent repeated emails, repeated GM calls and made repeated posts.

Just making a simple point. All the people who knew (players, forums) and all the people who should have known (SE) have shit that stinks equally.

Complicitous or duplicitous. Acts of commission versus acts of omission.

    Now I'm done.

and for the record, us "LM-17's" arent mad at SE. We are mad at who SE hired to handle the situation.

Im going to explain to you my point of view but im going to go from the start.

If ppl never knew how it worked, this is it.

    THE TRICK:

you go in with an alliance. You dissolve it by typing it only "/acmd leave". you cant do it from menu or it fucks it up. you have someone open up a chest. you have 3 treasure pools. Now this is where the trick gets to be obvious. other ppl from different pty's can lot the same item because it looks like it would in Dynamis since its an instanced zone. Right? wrong. The pty leaders of the other pty's press Quartermaster and receive all the cells in their inv meanwhile the main/tank pty can lot/pass etc. And all the buffs like cor rolls and bards can hit everyone.

The Japanese were the ones who taught us this over a year ago. The secret got spilled because some ppl tried selling it, etc and word got out fast, and than next thing you know, everyone starts doing it.

    The Banning Process:

I have a friend who knows a girl who works on the STF in California and trys to explain in detail why ppl were banned. They classify it in categories. you have your "ring leaders" aka the party leaders who pressed "QM" and you have your receivers, aka the people who received items.

As far as i know, no "ring leader" was temp. they all got a perm. However plenty of "receivers" got the temp. This is where it doesn't make sense. How did they go about deciding this? I cant even confirm this because they're ppl like my friend Descartes who's done this trick alot more than i have and has leader a million times to press QM, (i even remember dual boxing him and doing it) and he didnt even get a warning email.

So pretty much they split it into categories, but did a Russian roulette on all the people who got caught. I had a friend tag along in one of my runs 1-2x and she was in the main party because we needed someone to give away a Macha's coat to. We never did any QM's etc, she never got ANYTHING except cells to unlock her. She got banned, while Goldo who received a multiple pieces of gear got a temp.

Im in the % of the LM 17's who were never pty leaders and only got 1 thing lol. So you can see my frustration. I didnt care about epeen, only person i looked up to is Rukenshin.

My whole beef with the poster above me was that he was saying its the absolute worst sin you can ever commit in FFXI, but im starting to think that the people who jump on that bandwagon never been put in our shoes before and act like we're Al Capone or something. Or they dont want people with relics to outparse them in exp ptys again. As stupid as it sounds, i wouldnt be surprised if that was even a little true.
Personally, i dont care. I have a good reputation, so im not about ruining it even if i already accepted ill probably never play Rich again. But im not as peaceful as Kaeko. If someone says something that close minded, im going to respond lol.
That sucks. Well I hope for the best for you : ).

How about we petition retardedness and stupidity, then this thread wouldn't have to exist to hurt peoples' eyes anymore.

Anyone feel like creating an online petition against my online petition that's against online petitions? Perhaps that will help make the entire process even more ineffectual.

    (I'm American).
I am not saying anything about "SE is fail". We all know that they fail, they fail no harder than any other software company. (With the exception that they refuse to communicate with their customer base and don't fix shit when they find out about it, because I know someone will say it.)

What I am saying is that I am sick of people blaming this forum and my linkshell (because when people blame this forum, they in turn blame my linkshell) for the dupe glitch (it wasn't a hack, since it was all in-game mechanisms) not getting fixed. There are proper channels that people go through to report errors; "post it on BG" is not mentioned anywhere in the game, in game literature, Square's web site, or by the GMs.

However, BG didn't start the fire.
While it is true that we are responsible for all of that, and in fact we did start the fire since we were the one who started it burning just as the world began turning, Square doesn't need our help with making problems in the game.

wait what? if people who considered it cheating found out about it, like they would have if the mods here did not delete any posts relating to it, this bug would have been reported/fixed way sooner. I'm not sure how you can deny that.

Wait, what? Many people who found out about the glitch went through the proper channels and reported in game with GM calls on multiple occasions without having to post it on BG. I am not sure how anyone can deny that.

    Logic isn't good

the more calls about a problem, the more likely they are to fix it
I sent a letter to my representative and he did nothing. My whole town sent a letter and things changed.

Except, duping Salvage drops, to me at least, is a rather big issue, and even if they received 1 call about it, they should've looked into it immediately. The fact they left it alone for over a year, after many calls and emails were placed is simply ridiculous.

I missed the part where my monthly fee goes to this forum so they can police FFXI. I thought we had GMs and the STFU for that.

Because Square always listens when a lot of people tell them to fix something. Like Katarzyna said, it shouldn't take an outpouring of calls to fix something serious, and from their response they seem to take duping seriously.

By "duping" an item you hit the "accept" button of the risk it comes with. SE does fail, but I haven't seen any serious MMORPG company taking similar situations lightly.

I wish they were more clear with their methods. From what I've read around, bannings weren't *completely* fair.
