[Insert joke about how if their properties were really that valuable, the company wouldn't be heading towards bankruptcy]
What does Eidos have besides Tomb Raider these days? Serious question.

What does Eidos have besides Tomb Raider these days? Serious question.
"Hitman" is a huge one, and definitely deserves mention. Like the latest "Tomb Raider" titles, each iteration receives good reviews and sells well. They also have some great but under-appreciated properties, like "Soul Bubbles." There are older series SE could order resurrected, too, since they're good at that sort of thing -- like "Thief," for one.
And the value of a property has next to nothing to do with bankruptcy, considering that many excellent games are overlooked, while titles like "Halo 3" and "Madden '09" dominate the market. Even the best marketing schemes cannot guarantee success.
However, Square-Enix has a name that sells their games all on its own, so if they slap their own label on already decent properties...
It's a perfectly smart thing to do.
If? They are fucking it up.
Localization maybe? I wonder if they'll endup replacing agent 27(?) w/ Cloud :D
They have history as well since Eidos in the US published the PC port of FF7, so that could be a bit of play in there with that.
I'd rather see the Legaia series never get touched again after Duel Saga...

They've made a fuckload of great games since 2005 ("past few years"). Your expectations and standards are either far too high or you're just completely blind to half of their games. And whether you liked IU or not, shit is not the word you are looking for. It had a great battle system, decent craft system and the story was no worse than most other RPG's nowadays.
they want to make legacy of Kain and tomb raider remakes.
you know what Eidos game I thought was fun at the time... Unholy War.
I could see SE wanting to buy Eidos to acquire some legacy IPs like Deus Ex, Thief, LoK, and others but it still seems like a surprising move to me. Perhaps SE's BOD is looking to diversify outside of the Japanese market and get a better hold in European and North American markets. (Obviously they already do sell well outside of Japan, but they are very genre limited) I though I recalled reading on Kotaku that the European Economic Region just surpassed Japan as the second largest market for video and computer games behind North America. SE may be latching on to that potential through Eidos which has more name recognition (or notoriety, take your pick) in NA and EU regions.
They have been saying lately they really want to tap into the NA market more. Probably that's a big reason they've made so many exclusives on the 360.
It would be nice to see if something worthwhile could come out of these IPs, too. And by worthwhile, I do not mean Invisible War.
Legacy of Kain remains pretty much unfinished story-wise. Thief is a one-of-a-kind. Deus Ex was an absolute monster in its hey day, only to have a shitty sequel suddenly come about. Why Eidos always sat on these 3 IPs or gave it a backhanded treatment is a stupid, stupid move.
I'd argue the opposite, that your standards are too low, proven by thinking IU is great.
If you go by the wiki list and remove every re-release/re-make the majority of games released have been... "of mana" games(all universally horrible), shit like chocobo dungeons, SO 3, Grandia 3, Radiata, Slypheed, IU, etc etc. I'm not denying that S/E has released some good games, but they're not an awesome developer who releases mostly quality titles, the shit:gold ratio favors shit.
There's a difference you're right, but you did say it was great! And that's not even arguing that portion of the statement exclusively, IU's battle system was pretty great...at inducing narcolepsy. It had a great battle system, decent craft system and the story was no worse than most other RPG's nowadays.
Hey, fuck you. SO3 is awesome. Unless by some strange chance you're talking about another game abbreviated by SO3.
No, I meant Star Ocean.(I liked the game too, but objectively I think it's awful).
