In what ways is it objectively awful? I can admit there are bad aspects to all the games, but overall SO is one of the better RPG series.

    Darus Grey, dude... just stop.
    You're fighting a losing battle.

If you're saying SO3 is 'objectively' awful then you're obviously doing nothing but looking for a fight. The game wasn't perfect but there aren't all that many RPGs that are better.
And then you called Radiata Stories terrible... are you high?

They saved all the money we gave them by playing FFXI over the years and are now finally spending it.

Have to say that while I spent soooo many hours in SO2 getting at least 4 different play-throughs and trying out different people and also completed the tower, I just could not finish SO3. Wasn't bad, just wasn't the best available at the time. However, SO3's "failure" didn't tarnish my view on the series and I still look forward to SO4 and even have debated a PSP to play through SO2 a few more times.

I understand that you preferred SO2 Okan, but if we're looking at things 'objectively' SO3 was superior to SO2.

The only real downfalls were that the story took so long to pick up and then the 'plot-twist'.
Now, one could argue that it felt different from SO2... but SO2 was vastly different from SO1 as well.
So you might as well call it series tradition at this point since SO4 looks like it's going to introduce a host of changes as well.

    .
holy shit... SO3 takes longer to start up than SO2? I was like an 1hr 20min into So2 and I only had control for like 15minutes. and 10 of that was walking around a small town I couldnt leave.

I thought their jump to 360 was partly due to some dispute with Sony..

And the easiest way for SE to gain market share in the states is to make PC versions of its damn games.

He said story to pick up, that means it takes a while for the story to get interesting enough to be invested in. As for how long it takes to start up, I'd say it's around the same amount of time really. It wasn't a short intro, that's for sure.

    Pretty much this.
Honestly the intro being long wasn't all that bad for me though since I don't really mind these things so much on a first playthrough except for in the case of a few games (where the intros aren't particularly interesting... see Persona 4).

But hey, at least there's cutscene skipping on SO3 for subsequent playthroughs!

This is correct from what I have read in MCV, etc. at work.

I don't think it was due to a conflict with Sony, but more due to sales reasons. I hate to say this and sound like some 360 fanboy, but almost every game that went for both consoles (Assassin's Creed, GTA IV, etc and excluding Wii for this debate) has sold better on the 360 than on the PS3 in the US. I don't want to get in to the reasons that this happened, just that when they did some research on the market, they noticed that the 360 was a better investment in the US than the PS3. Maybe even in Japan now that Tales of Vesperia basically cause the 360 to sell out for the first month or so of it's release.

It's ironic that they [SE] are releasing more titles for all platforms than ever before (w/ the exception of PS3), and yet their sales have been going down the toilet.

They released Crisis core, Revanant Wings, 2 Tactics games and KH: Final Mix the year prior to that drop off. Don't you think that'd clue you in as to why their overall sales would have dipped in 08?

Nope, EA only did FF8. I still wake up in a cold sweat from nightmares of doing tech support for that buggy piece of shit since Square felt 1 week for multiple builds of the game (which meant no one completed it) was sufficient for quality control testing. And since I was the only Final Fantasy fan in my section, I wound up taking 90% of the calls.

these days releasing on pc wouldnt help them, as 50% of the copies would be pirated, no one buys pc games anymore, pc games sales are so far down its sad.

Don't forget when they change her personality to either be a "Desu Kawaiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii T_T" anime character, or a " . . . " cloud.

The only games that I think Eidos made that even warrant a thought about a sequel or a remake are Deus Ex. Not the second one. The first one. I enjoyed them both, but the first one was much better. I mean what else would they make? Kane & Lynch Part 2. That game sucked balls and didn't even warrant making a first one. Legacy of Kain could be interesting if SE didn't go overboard, which you know would happen. Legaia would be an interesting one because I did enjoy that. One game I really did love and hope they do NOT do a remake of is the Way of the Samurai.
