Priest Thread - Am I doing it right?

So, here I am going along following Jame's guide and things are going well so far, but I wanted some feedback on the direction I'm going and if there's anything I could be doing differently.

    Gear here. Talents here.

I only spend money upgrading wands (I'm behind atm) and craft whatever mats drop from mobs, but I haven't actively tried to make money yet.

The way I take stuff down normally is always keeping Inner Fire, PW:F, and keeping PW:S up as often as possible. Pull with Mind Blast > Mind Flay > SW > then either wand to death or another Mind Blast. I can take out mobs up to my level without much difficulty if I can pull one at a time. Adds make things a little dicey, but I can take two without dying usually.

How badly am I sucking? :D

I don't see you doing anything wrong, but lowbie levelling is all about exploiting free shit from holidays, so go get some of those chocolates that give pretty exceptional stats to low level characters and stack with food/elixir effects while you still can.

You can also probably get away with only refreshing PW:S when you've pulled more than one mob. Casting it every pull is probably more mana-intensive than simply casting Renew after a pull to heal the incidental hits you took.

When I leveled priest it was a bit rough until you get shadowform, and things start getting easier from there. The rotation you use sounds about right, but as Correction said, don't PW:S all the time. I always felt it was more of a pre-fight buff and an oh-shit button more than anything else.

Also as with every other job... I really don't see any reason why you should visit the AH before 80 unless you're buying craft mats, have a badly underleveled slot and can find a cheap upgrade, or you're a twink.

And if you have an 80 already, those account-binding items are great for leveling a new job.

Update, how am I looking? Armory Talents

I recently got bitched at by a couple 13 year-olds about how crappy my gear was so I've been making choice (cheap) replacements where needed and running instances every chance I get. I'd like opinions on what I have so far (should I start going more towards INT and SP?), and thoughts on picking up a healing gearset for when I get those invites to heal 5-mans. What do I prioritize? Spirit? MP5?

Get green wotlk gems for your gear with sockets. They're pretty big stat boosts and cost almost nothing on ah.

I see nothing particularly wrong with your gear, although you do seem to have skipped a few hellfire/zangar quests that would have upgraded your rings and neck pieces.

The Cleansing Must Be Stopped - Quest - World of Warcraft

    for example.

The quest reward rings from hellfire have mp5, which is not the most useful shadow priest stat in the world but it'll hold you till terokkar's better ring rewards.

You can also cherry-pick quests for item rewards if you're in a hurry to get to northrend and just want something better than random greens:

    http://www.wowhead.com/?quests=8.348...r=si=2#0-5+1+2

just change the zone and resort by item rewards to find your cloth pieces of choice. I reckon you'll want new shoes at the minimum, once you've gotten better rings and a new neckpiece.

Just a note, generally if you're not 80 the quality of your gear means fuck-all as long as it's actually a sensible piece for your class' needs.

That said, you're still wearing some vanilla pieces...which are easily eclipsed by Outland gear. If you're thorough you can get virtually every slot into BC level gear just via Hellfire Peninsula...any missed slots can be easily instanced or AH'd at that point (or just keep leveling through the next area(s), they made sure everybody's gear gets upgraded pretty quick).

Cool, thanks, didn't know you could sort WowHead like that. Should I start gemming for hit yet or just spellpower/crit?

Spellpower/crit unless you're taking on mobs that are much higher than you. I didn't start worrying about +hit until I started raiding Naxx with my S.Priest.

Generally though, you shouldn't gem for hit unless you HAVE to. I filled the gap I had by eating +hit food instead of gemming for hit. But again, this isn't something you need to worry about until much later.

(Haven't seen anyone mention it- www.shadowpriest.com can be a great reference for you, though most of it is focused toward more endgame and raid stuffs).

EDIT- fixed a dumb mistake crit != hit
