The people who are saying they believe that SE is going to shut down FFXI when this new game comes out, are probably the same people who think this stimulas shit is good for America.

SE has stated numerous times that FFXI will never be shut down as long as it's turning a profit (aka a whole ~500 or so people playing).

Just look at EQ2, that came out, EQ players moved over... then moved back because they thought EQ2 was shit.
The same scenario could happen with Rapture and FFXI

I'd say closer to about 20,000-30,000 people playing. 500 is about a break even when running a single server due to electricity costs, but not enough to fund a GM's paycheck and that. At least with 20k-30k, you have a decent size for a single server and staffing needs. Once servers start to merge due to low population, then you know that the games days are getting close. Below 100k get worried, below 20k say good bye.

It would be the PS3 that runs out of hard drive space first. As the 360 Is replaceable and there is a 240gig coming out shortly, so you can all ways get a bigger one. The PS3 on the other hand you can not.

Actually, I'd be happy to see Rapture is not related to any of their current series (DQ, FF, etc) just to not force expectations of that series. We all came in to FFXI expecting some sort of familiar feelings to FF7/8/9/10.

Yes, but every thing in FFXI related to every other Final Fantasy game and is also limited to what we expect from FFXI. Bahamut, Odin, etcetcetc. Whereas a brand new IP/title will allow them to do whatever they want.

And agreed with Correction. Make the interfaces unique to each different system. PC, PS3, and Xbox 360 with Chatpad. (Not so much unique, but fitting for each system)
