"Rapture" to replace FFXI as premiere SE MMO... =(

Didn’t SE say at some interview that they wanted to somehow transfer character information over to the next MMO by them?

Its hard to fathom the idea that it will replace ffxi, all shit would just be a waste if they dont transfer shit, then again thus is the bottom line of FFXI. I think alot of people fail to realize in the end, it doesnt matter how accomplished you are at an MMO your going to be ended one way or another.

I see a large portion of the "my first & last mmorpg, but i'm a huge SE fan" will jump to Rapture. I don't expect Rapture to be coming out anytime soon though. Most likely minimum 2 years before we see anything major. Hopefully it's PC based only and no "Ps3 limitions". I want more then 70 inventory. Lol.

Even if FFXI doesn't die off completely with the advent of Rapture, they admit less resources will be allocated to ffxi than we currently have. I don't know about the rest of you, but already i get the feeling FFXI is being run by a skeleton crew. I can't imagine how slow changes will roll in with even less dev support.

Already i've heard from alot of people who say that this news makes it hard to log in, and i tend to agree.

Seriously though, despite how much shit people like to talk about XI, everyone on this forum fell in love with it at one point. Imagine the next major effort by SE, with all of their resources, new art direction, new design. Everyone is going to play it, I guarantee it.

Character transfer would mean they keep too many of FFXI's mechanics and gear system for Rapture to ever be a good game on its own merits.

As far as I know its planned for X360, Windows and PS3. They are not ruling out a MAC OS version either.

but, ill play if it i can get my taru and such on there. if not, im not playing. Honestly, I'd rather just go back to being crazy about Ghost Recon and playing DA4.9 mods all day.

furthermore, I'm sick of SE as a whole. and Diablo 3's set to rule the world soon (with a potential amount of fail). so why would they try to release this game now as their centre of focus? I know nothing about it, not even by word of mouth, i dont know if its a part of a previous series.

one of the main reasons i liked FFXI was firstly its backstory, and it being final fantasy and at one point being a final fantasy buff, i could relate to it. not to mention my love affair with beastmaster and how much work i put into finding out about the game mechanics.
now its just become me loving my character so much that i stay and constantly try to upgrade it. as with any mmo with such a strict registration system, this is how it would be for me. i have no interest in another MMO right now, except potentially ones some of my friends are in.
