if it isnt pc only then fuck it
if it isnt pc only then fuck it
I know you love contradicting me, but seriously, what article did you read?
Of course we read through the presentation and the budget report. Yes, on the surface there isn't a ton of info. That's why we each gave our own analysis, which we clearly marked with:
Corinth had a more emotional, and perhaps pessimistic view, but she has some close ties in FFXI, and a shell of people who are really good to her. Her approach to the situation was more as a casual player, and she investigated what Japanese players were discussing on their forums as well. I see no alarm from her end, but rather a somewhat sad realization of the end of of era. Yes, it may be an obvious end, but it doesn't give it any less impact when presented with the truth.**Please note that the analyses written within this article reflect the opinions of the JP Button staff and are no definitive indication of Square Enix’s current or future business decisions.
After that, I gave my analysis, which I would say is the opposite of alarming. I took a more business-like, analytical approach, because I do a lot of translation and consulting within international business. I admitted the decline of FFXI, but tried to reassure those who might be worried that FFXI will remain as strong as we want it to be. I don't think I once implied that FFXI would be replaced completely and/or killed off.
After getting home, Corinth presented this information to me, and then stayed up to 3am reading through it together and writing up the article - we wanted to present multiple views that balanced out and provided insight over impact. So this flippant comment about not bothering to research just sounds like an "I coulda done it" attitude.
Yeah, now that I've had time to read and really digest it, I can defiantly relate to where Corinth was coming from. Yeah, it is upsetting to think that the game we've all come to know and love these many years may come to an eventual conclusion. Maybe a few months from now, maybe a few years, who knows what will happen? But as long as we, the players continue to support the game, SE in turn will also continue to support the game. It's a win-win scenario for both sides to keep the game alive and thriving.
I'd be shocked if SE offered a special deal to it's current FFXI players like 2 months free play (limited char creations) to try to get us over to Rapture. But seeing and knowing the flaws in FFXI already....I kinda don't want to know what they'll fuck up on a new MMO. And yes I'm sure half of us will try it and others will say fuck SE.
But there's three ways of seeing Rapture....
1. They learn from their mistakes, don't leave glitches in game. Deal with rmt without hurting the players to much...
2. Rapture will be a huge flop and FFXI gains more players cause of it.
3. Both games will have their group people that will play them cause they like something about that game.
And I'm gonna go with 3.
As for char transfers....I highly doubt it.
Square Enix to Unveil Their Next-Gen MMO at E3 2009? | SCRAWL
Anyone see this article?
The upcoming MMO will not replace Final Fantasy XI, as it is meant to coexist with the already released MMO.
I wouldn't worry about FFXI dying anytime soon.
This one actually shows the magazine article about the possible mmo showing off at e3. Scroll down for the pic!

I don't care much about character transfer, however it'd be cool if SE gave FFXI players the ability to beta test Rapture out.
@Nyerieri: They're not trying to brush FFXI off to the side, they just want a new MMO to show off. Which is what the title of this thread says.
I'm sure many/most will try it, but the big question is will they stay. Great visuals are nice and all, but if the game is filled with problems that SE continues to ignore then it'll just be FFXI 2.0. And if that's the case, its alot easier to quit when you haven't put much effort into the game than it is had you put years into the game as with FFXI.
Plus I imagine those who currently play FFXI and do try it will be holding SE to a much higher standard since SE has had plenty of time to listen to issues players have. There should be no reason for SE to make the same mistakes over again.
Will SE release the game worldwide simultaneously? Giving the JPs a nine month head start or something will be a pisser before people even start.
Personally I have no interest in any other MMO right now. Still enjoying FFXI as much as ever right now. And besides... no Tar00s™ means no game. Period.
if i didnt get banned, id still quit for this. Even if i had a Dring and 6 relics with a maat cap.
no seriously.
God i hate to admit it, but this totally owns Aion on visuals. I wonder how the gameplay is.
edit: it looks like Tetsuya nomura is going to do the character designs <3
If you're not a digital artist lunatic like me, Tetsu is the designer for KH1-3 FFVII-X etc
Well, I simply think there was some over-interpreting and seeing some conclusions in a simple financial report. Big game companies like SE release financial reports like this every quarter and there's only so much you can read out of it. It's not like they released this to the press intending to make an annoucement on FFXI's future lifespan, so I think people shouldn't see it as such, and SE just saying they want to expand their online business doesn't mean they want to kill FFXI or whatever. They did that before when they released FMO, that didn't change anything to FFXI's running (although FMO didn't do great it seems).
SE also mentioned many times their new MMO would not be a sequel to FFXI (whatever they mean exactly by that), and that they would keep making contents as long as people showed interest. Also, from looking at other MMO publishers I don't think there's a prior example of a company terminating immediatly their previous successfull game when they released a new game.
Person who quoted me>> I'm just not agreeing with the opinion you gave. No personal offense... Just tired of the whole "FFXI is dying" etc :/ and well, people are likely to have different opinions on a subject like this, allow me to have mine.
Sure FFXI won't be eternal, but I think there's no need to be pessimistic just because other game(s) are coming and so far, SE didn't make any statement in that direction.
Then it's obvious you didn't bother to read my opinion, which seems strange since you had such criticism for the article. Really, look:Originally Posted by some guy pfft I dunno I'm all indifferent

Honestly, SE would be stupid to get in cahoots with Sony again. Sony royally screwed SE and the North American market. FFXI was released on the PS2 in North America in March 2004. In November 2004, Sony pulled the plug on their chunky, ugly, but efficient bulky PS2s and released those piece of shit slim lines. The "slim lines" weren't officially unveiled until 2 months before its release (in September 2004). I think SE would be complete idiots to give the go-ahead for the PS3, only to have Sony screw them over a mere 8 months later. That's just my opinion though.
Could we not make this a quote war please?
But to reply, I was thinking mostly about sentences like this from the linked article:
Maybe I'm reading wrong but this sounded rather pessimistic to me and the person who wrote sounds like they thought the announcement means FFXI will stop when Rapture is released.Lots of people have been wondering what will happen to FFXI when Rapture is finally released. With FFXI as profitable as it is, I can imagine a situation where they continue to support FFXI up until the release of Rapture.
...
They are having the same reaction to the news that I had. Rapture = The End of FFXI.
...
While I’d love to see FFXI and Rapture both run at the same time, SE may not have (or hire) enough staff to keep up development and customer service. It’s sad, but I feel like I see the end of FFXI with this tiny statement SE made today.
No need to be aggressive in your replies, really :/
On a side note... I thought about this after posting, but maybe the perception is also different in US/Japan. I can see how many other MMORPGs are released in America and people maybe see FFXI as already "over", but here in Japan it's still a rather big title, the online gaming magazines always have articles about it and you still have some advertising for it in stores/magazines etc (like they made a campaign in convenience store last year). You don't really get many signals the game is anywhere near dying. Maybe it's only marketing, I'm just saying it doesn't seem like SE would want to stop milking it any soon.
And the competition isn't big either, Monster Hunter is maybe the only game that has been really successfull, and WoW isn't released or even announced (though there are some people importing it).
I don't know what you mean by quote war, but I was essentially trying to show that we are in agreement. What you quoted may be less enthusiastic about the news, but that was the point - to give different opinions based on our (me/Corinth) perspectives, i.e., polling actual JP players vs. working in business.
Seems like it may be hit or miss for SE. The loyal followers of SE will move on to Rapture, and the rest of us without faith will remain in Vana'diel in perpetuity.
