Why is this computer so cheap?

So my dad wants a new Dell. His current desktop is 2001, absolutely horrible everything. Even the worst new desktops pretty much blow it away. Well, it's hardly running anymore and has pretty much died completely. He doesn't want to spend much and all he needs it for is playing poppa-zoppa on AOL games. I've been screwing around in the dell website for a while and have put together this.

That's even with the upgrading the memory and adding the HDMI compatible video card(costing me $100 more). That price is pretty much 80 - 100 dollars cheaper than anything else I can find.

Does this look like a good deal for a machine that won't be seeing much heavy action? The price being about 25% lower than any other dell I can find has me feeling like there's some catch.

Thanks in advance for any input.

It's a mini tower, meaning that most PCI cards won't fit in it. It also comes with no monitor.

The processor, RAM, and video card are all old and outdated, so it's about right for the price.

I'd get one of those for my grandpappy, so he can play solitaire on vista or something wild!

For that price it'd be worth it.

That being said however, it would still be an absolutely massive upgrade from his current computer without spending a fortune. Just try to find a cheapo LCD to go with it and you're laughing.

i've actually been suggesting low end netbooks wired to a keyboard, monitor, and external CD drive for the lowest end computer needs. you can get the laptop and CD drive for about 350 after shipping which is cheaper than almost every desktop PC enclosure i've found. in addition, if they ever want to take it on a trip or otherwise, they already have a laptop ready to go.

alternatively, if you want to go the super-duper cheap route, you could try something like this: Newegg.com - Recertified: IBM ThinkCentre A50P(8193A3U) Pentium 4 2.40GHz 512MB DDR 40GB Intel Extreme Graphics 2 Windows XP Professional
refurb desktop, but the price is really low. while i wouldn't use it for my own desktop PC, if all you're in need of is a "grandma email box" it may still fit the bill and you'd be damn hard pressed to match something that insanely cheap.
