Doc Halladay was incredible tonight. Probably the 3rd best pitching performance of the season behind Buerhle and Sanchez.

What's amazing about him is he's had shitty outings ever since the whole trade talk thing, and then has this amazing start.. and STILL has 14 wins and only a 2.98 ERA

'twas an awesome display, really wish he would have gotten the no-no but he seams to be snake bitten in that regard for a pitcher of his talent. To do it to the Yankees with the way they had been rolling makes it even more impressive though.

I'm pretty sure if Halladay is on, you could throw a combination lineup of the 27 Yankees, Big Red Machine, and today's Yankees and they still wouldn't score any runs.

Fucking Brad Lidge. Fucking Kazuo Matsui. No matter where he is he seems to hurt the Phillies.

Hanley Ramirez has started over 95% of the games played the past 4 years. Only 13 MLB players have more games played than he does over that span. NO Marlin has more games played, including the guy crying in Uggla.

And yet almost the entire team questions if he's really hurt or not? Jealous bitches. Same dicks who said Cantu should have been the team MVP last year instead of Ramirez (The same Cantu who had a OPS 150 points lower than Hanley).

Price of being one of the greatest ever I guess.

There are only two SSs that have had a more prolific career than hanley has in this age frame (25 and younger).

One is Alex Rodriguez and the other is Arky Vaughn. One is the #1 SS of all time, the other is the best SS of all time not named Alex Rodriguez or Honus Wagner.

And even comparing him too all players, not taking any positional adjustment into account, he has the 60th best OPS+ of all time, which is in the 97th percentile of players with enough PA

Which are HanRam's first four full seasons, and which are Nomar Garciaparra's? Remember, no one thinks Nomar is one of the greatest of all time. The point is HanRam needs to keep doing what he's doing for 10+ years. Then he may be in that discussion. To call someone "one on the greatest ever" after four seasons is absurd.

Michael Bourn is so fucking fast, Phillies probably would have won if the two times he was caught were successful. Besides Phillies losing 3 in a row, Hunter Pence is annoying as fuck.

Nomar has the 5th highest OPS+ of any SS ever. I fail to see how he isn't one of the greatest to play the game either. Very very few players were as valuable as he was.

I mean, let's put this in perspective of other, more powerful positions.

    5th highest OPS+ for a 1B: Hank Greenberg
    For a LF: Willie Stargel
    For a RF: Vladimir Guerrero

That may be the 5th best OPS for a SS, but it doesn't put him in the class as 'greatest to play the game'. Hell. People probably think he was on some sort of PED. D: I sure as heck do. I also think most people were on PEDs during that time, but that's another story.

Ask the Cubs, A's, and Dodgers how awesome Nomar is. OPS+ isn't the be all end all of stats. It doesn't take into account that the guy can't stay on the field. You can't be one of the best ever if you aren't playing. Ozzie Smith has an OPS+ of 87. Are you saying Nomar's a better SS than Ozzie? Could turn it the other way and ask about a guy who would tie in well with the initial HanRam example: Tony Canigliaro's average OPS+ was 133 for his first four seasons. One of the best RF of all time?

Why not? Ability is ability, regardless of time on the field
