Any statistically minded baseball person would tell you that bunting is almost always a bad idea unless it's the pitcher. A good offense is about out prevention and giving up an out like that is more likely to hurt you than help you. Jeter is also a pretty good runner and at 2nd he's already in a good position to score on any ball hit to the outfield. I have to agree with Cephius that it was a stupid call. Doesn't look like it's going to hurt them though at this point.
