I have never in my life cum so fast as to when Youk hit that walk off. Jason Bay's was also a close second, probably one of the top three Sox games I have seen in my life. Ironically I almost bought tickets to this game like I did last year. (First Sox vs Yankees game of the season)

It was a beautiful pitch, Youk just happened to get every piece of it imaginable and hit it into the street behind the monster. It's rare that I'll give respect to one of the Bosox, but sitting back on those two strikes he took, he had Marte's number and just took the third one yard.

I'm more upset about the dinger off of Mo in the 9th...

So how MUCH time does Ortiz get? 1-6 with the Golden Sombrero with cheese (4K's, 3 of them he looked awful)? 4 Of those at-bats against a hard throwing right hander, which in the past has been his bread and butter.

It's almost May, and he's on a team that is known for their druthers in June and July. Otherwise, good comeback win last night, but it shouldn't have been needed, the Sox left a lot of men on last night, and never got the big hit that put them over the top until Bay's at-bat in the 9th - which ruled, I was hoping that they might have gotten a deal done with him before the season, I don't want him to hit the market.

At this point, Ortiz gets as much time as he needs. He looked awful last night, but the previous three or four games were pretty good for him. Sure, he didn't hit a home run in any of those games, but he had a triple and a handful of doubles. On this team, he can get by on that. Also keep in mind that the Sox have won eight straight with Ortiz struggling, so he really isn't that big of an issue at this point in the season. If he's still homer-less with an avg around the Mendoza line come mid-June, that's when his time will start to run short.

You guys got rid of a manager who presided over one of you best eras (late 90's early 2000's) because Steinbrenner is tool. I would say he managed a bullpen pretty damn decently to win three straight World Series in a row and three American League Pennants as well. But hey you guys know what you are doing, why should we question it. Just keep up the good work.

Why do you keep referring to me as "you guys"? I'm not the team. I'm a fan.

I never said Torre wasn't a good manager. He managed the egos in the clubhouse very well, something Girardi struggles with IMO. But he was even worse at managing the bullpen.

In the championship years, there wasn't much managing to be done. Every one of his starters were 300 hitters and had double digit HRs. He had Darryl Strawberry on the bench. He had lockdown relievers for the 7/8th innings in Nelson and Stanton and the best closer in baseball for the 9th.

Once the bullpen wasn't lights out, his weaknesses showed. Scott Proctor threw more innings under Torre than any reliever in baseball and eventually blew out his arm. He destroyed Kyle Farnsworth's confidence by leaving him in game-critical situations far too long until the game had completely gotten away from him.

As for Steinbrenner being a tool, yeah, he was. I think it was part the Yankee FO wanting a change, Torre being tired of NY (evidenced by him taking far less money to manage the Dodgers) and Steinbrenner doing what he does.

They offered him a contract that would have kept him the highest paid manager in the game, albeit lesser than what he received (but he didn't warrant a raise) Got rid of him? stop pretending you know what you're talking about.

and yea, managing a bullpen is real hard when you have Stanton-Nelson-Rivera. Fucking tough.
