I've umped a couple of little league games as a volunteer for my brother years ago, and that shit ain't easy. I didn't do balls and strikes, left that to the "adult" and i have all the respect for those who do it. I don't know how many times i've seen an ump just get completely fooled (as well as the hitter) on something that looks out of the strike zone and just drops in and is called a ball, or vice versa. But so long as they are consistent with the calls, and it's not super blatant, i'm fine with it.

Who gives a shit, it's one game. Every sport has a couple asshole refs or umps that give everyone a bad reputation and alter the complexion of a game. If you're that mad, write a letter to the MLB about Wally Bell. But do you really want HARDAC calling balls and strikes?

No officiating will ever be 100%. The damn game has gone on for over 100 years with human error element in place. Any coach or player will tell you that if they lost a game due to a bad call,then it was there fault for even being in that position. I have no trouble for replays for home runs/foul balls cause field dimensions are so damn wacky now, but balls/strikes, bang bang plays on the basepaths, leave it to the umps. If it's that gross of a mis call, play the game under protest and let the comissioners office sort it out.

It's the human element that should never be removed from any sport, IMO. I don't have a problem with any strike zone as long as it's the same for both teams. Calling balls and strikes is totally the same thing as running up and down the court/field and calling a foul. We should just install cyborgs to do this, because that's clearly what I meant.

Majority of people who have played seriously (minimum serious college ball) that I know would get rid of umpires. Nothing pisses you off more as a hitter than having a called third strike that's a ball, nothing pisses you off more as a pitcher than a called ball 4 on a strike. Most players will give the PC answer of "keep the game the way it is" to the media and such but they don't seriously feel that way.
