5-8 isn't terribad if the Braves had to play NYY too, but they didn't. So either way.. here's hoping for some better situational hitting on the homestand.

The Yanks hitters have been in a terrible slump, but they're showing signs of coming out of it. I think they miss Lowe in this series... it could be rough going for the Braves. If I had to bet I'd say the Yanks take at least 2/3.

Was at today's and yesterday's Cubs/Indians game, disappointing for me. The way the Indians and some of the other teams in AL Central are playing, it seems like no one really wants to win that division.

Dice-K to the DL, surprise surprise. I guess that more or less solves the immediate roster issues. Now the more pressing question is what happens when Lowrie comes back? Nick Green is hitting around .300, coming up with big hits, and playing pretty strong defense. His defensive numbers look like crap for the year, but if you break it down he's had essentially the same number of chances each month, yet his errors have gone from 5 in April -> 3 in May -> 1 in June at SS.

Chipper's an awesome guy honestly. That's the first time in a long time I've seen him explode, and yeah. He was right. Basically, instead of an off-day today, they have to play the Cubs in a make-up game, then go on for 3 vs. the Yankees, Red Sox, and Phillies before their next off-day.

First he QQs that he couldn't land Tex, and now he QQs about the Yankees payroll when they spent a grand total of 1m/year more to get him. Hypocrite much?

Incoming 8-1 road trip for the Phillies.

I can't believe I'm actually saying this right now but thank God Lidge is coming back this week. I hope to hell he's completely healthy now and starts pitching like he did last year. Its pretty bad when Chan Ho Park has been your best pitcher the last couple weeks.

The Mets just put Beltran on the DL and they have upcoming series against the Cards, Yankees, Brewers, Phillies, and Reds. They're pretty much handing you the division on a silver platter, you guys need to step up and take it.

Not to mention the Braves have one against the Cubs tonight, three against the Yanks (hopefully 1-2 there), three against the BoSox (hopefully another 1-2), and then finishing up with three against the Phillies. You guys should have the division wrapped up easy.

Jayson Stark pointed out that if not for Lidge and Madson the Phillies could be up by 8 games by now. And really, they should be. They're having a funky season of inconsistent starting pitching, inconsistent hitting, and it's putting a huge tax on an otherwise good bullpen. If they lose the division over it all then I can't be too surprised.

I enjoyed this one liner from Bill Conlin's column today: "The Phillies are officially the worst home team since France."

So who thinks anyone in the MLB is going to play in the WBC next time around? List of guys who have spent time on the DL this year, who also played in the WBC:

Kevin Youkilis
Carlos Beltran
Dice-K
J.J. Putz
Brian McCann
Joakim Soria
Joey Votto
Oliver Perez
Jose Guillen
Carlos Silva
Carlos Ruiz
Akinori Iwamura

And then there are guys like Chipper, HanRam, Miguel Cabrera, Evan Longoria, and Shane Victorino who haven't been on the DL but who all have missed time at some point this year. Obviously not every injury is due to the WBC... but come on. All those names are too much of a conincidence.

And that doesn't even count guys like Magglio, Rollins, Ortiz, Oswalt, and Lindstrom who all have been vastly underperforming at points this year - who all played in the WBC.
