Hanley Shouldn't be a Short stop. He really needs to be moved into the outfield or maybe third base imo. He's a good hitter but hes kinda a player that gets over looked being on the Marlins and all. Being a Met fan I think hes a good player and probably deserves to be there much more than Rollins. But as a Met fan I also fucking hate that stupid fuck Rollins.

Look, we all know that the All-Star game is stupid, and giving it the home field deciding game was an effort to make it less of a joke. Popularity contest or not, there's still a right to shake your head when someone who doesn't deserve to be there makes it. There are always borderline cases, but someone like Rollins getting in this year would be a crime.

And really, citing errors? Look at the entire major leagues. How many guys are in the majors who can play defense but not hit? Not many. Maybe a few catchers, but even then, you're expected to hit around 250.

Now look at all the guys who can hit but can't play defense. The Adam Dunns of the world. The Jeters, the Damons, the Ortizes. It's a simple fact, hitting and pitching >>>>>>>>>>>> defense.

Defense just isn't as fashionable or marketable, unless you have somebody who stands out in a major way like Ozzie Smith or Omar Vizquel. Even gold glove winners are usually people who have a good year offensively.

Still, defense doesn't have as much as an effect on the game as a potent offensive player does. It's why guys like Dunn/Jeter/etc can have high WARP3 or win share totals despite their lackluster defense. It comes down to baseball being a game of runs and outs, the object of the game is to score runs and not make outs.

Defense can be fashionable and marketable, just look at Web Gems or the entire career of Ozzie or Pudge. The problem is that defense doesn't help you win games as much as offense does, so it's sometimes overlooked.

And pitching has the most effect on a game period. You can't win if you can't score. I just think the all star game should reward the best all-around players in the league, not to just the most offensively successful for the first portion of the season.

Hanley Ramirez has been an average defensive shortstop for a year and a half now. He was lousy early in his big league career, but it was just sloppy play. He didn't outgrow the position or lose his tools or anything. Lots of us thought the Marlins should have moved him then, but they were vindicated for letting his defense come around.
