W00t PLD merits thread

I'm just starting to merit PLD now, but I personally don't see the use in going 5 Rampart merits unless you have 5 Sentinel. Sentinel just too damn sexy. Personally think I'm going to go 5/5 Sentinel and 5/5 SB, just because an extra Stun never hurts, especially low man.

Take that with a grain of salt as I've only been 75 just under a week now though.

If you have an Aegis, the answer is unquestionably to dump the Rampart merits.

Kinda on topic, I currently have 5 shield bash and 5 rampart merits, I am considering dropping the bash merits for sentinal. Any Aegis users done this?

Lower sentinel recast will probably net you more survivability/emnity than shield bash and rampart, but then again I like my huge shield bashes, so I kept my bash merits Q.Q.

However I would consider swapping rampart for sentinel merits, but thats just me.

As for my group 2 merits:

5 chivalry (I solo alot and this has saved my ass several times in big fights where shit hit the fan).
1 fealty
4 guardian

I would go 5/5 Chiv 5/5 Fealty and that what I had.

This is the direction I'm heading as well.

Fealty is underrated imo. Most seem to only see it as reducing non-elemental damage but it also really nice for things like Cerb's Ululation since you'll resist the para.

I'm also kinda confused about Guardian. The general consensus is that Atonement is used to build up hate, if you're spamming Atonement does it really matter if you lose hate during Sentinel if you're going to get it back with Atonement spam? Due to that I haven't really seen the point of meriting it.

I just assume people look at it as 'making Sentinel even more badass'. The question really is do you want Fealty on a 10 minute timer, or a 20 minute timer? Adjust merits as necessary, making sure to keep 5 in Chivalry and at least 1 in Fealty.

My Aegis isn't complete yet, but Rampart merits were never on the table for me, once I realized I'd seriously be going for Aegis. 5/5 Sentinel, 5/5 Shield Bash.

Ive actually been considering Pizza over dorado. Would think the DoT from the extra attack and not hitting for 0 as much would help TP rate and emnity over time better.

If its a matter of hitting for zero or not I'd be inclined to agree, but otherwise, you're better off trying to supplement your accuracy. Unless you've got a Feint rotation or three Bards in the tank party, your hit-rate will still leave something to be desired with sushi, much less pizza.

Atonement isn't necessarily the end-all hate generator. There's a good number of mobs where it really isn't that spectacular (or simply can't use it) and having Guardian is a nice backup for when you know you're gonna get your face kicked in, but can survive it.

Edit: I'd go with dorado sushi, as well. At least with that, it's going to help with your other hate tools, whereas pizza won't.
