Indeed the best choice for your whm is just to lvl up blm(to 37) and whm up as fast and cheap as possible (note this isnt the same as having terribly crappy gear.), not spending an incredible amount of money on great pieces of gear when you can get something with 5less mp or 1 less mnd for 100k cheaper. once you have a job in the 70s it's alot easier to focus on farming for money and what not.

I started a fresh character a little while ago, had whm and blm to 37, rdm to 68 in less than 3 months. Though my account is currently canceled since I dont have time to play currently with a job and classes taking up all the time during my weekdays.
and a warning about goldsmithing... I had gotten it up to the 90s awhile ago, and it takes alot of gil to invest, and it is hardly worth it nowadays. your going to have to do a hell of alot of synthing after you reach 100 just to get your money back.

You might also want to look at Mist Silk Cape - Bahamut - FFXIAH.com to be upgraded later to a White Cape (+1).

Also, when you hit 36 quest the teleport spells ASAP. tele-taxi can help you raise some money. If you are going to farm (silk, beehive chips, whatever) level thf to at least 15, it will help greatly.

money will probably be your biggest problem at low levels. money to afford spells, new gear, and food (cookies pretty much always)

an alternative farming or crafting is doing repeatable quests. i cant tell you how many times i rode the khazam airship back and forth, doing that silly quest for 500 gil (a discerning eye). paid 200gil once to get into the airship agency and went back and forth for hours while seeking and reading a book or watching tv/movies. took screenshots of the guy you have to memorize so i would never fail it too
looking back, it was a waste of time, and there are much better ways to make money.

the quest in selbina is a good one(Only the Best), if you have a bit of a bankroll. the guy buys boyahda moss for 600 gil. it usually sells on the AH for about 7k/stack. if you get it for less than 7.2k/stack, you just made some money. AND fame. trading in about 25 stacks will max your fame in jeuno, bastok, and sandoria. (and you can trade it with the /item command via a macro - much faster than using the trade window)

you can also play the auction house game. find things that vendors sell that cost more on the auction house, and put them up. and find things on the auction house that vendor for more money than they cost, and vend them.

Non-repeatable quests own. Easy to get a million or 2 'till you get to 60, starting from around 20. The hard part is looking them up though. And because you're a mage you can't sell some of the scrolls. Still should get you to 75 if you do every one of them.

When I started I liked to fish for moat carps for money. It was pretty good!

Like the others said, only upgrades I'd really make is the wand with +mnd and +int on it to help land your enfeebles and cap out your cures. There's a series of those wands, try to get the +1s (Solid wand at 32). The other things I found useful were the Talisman cape: Talisman Cape - Bahamut - FFXIAH.com (you use it every 30 mins and it gives you extra MP and -enmity which are great!) and Talisman obi: Talisman Obi - Bahamut - FFXIAH.com (same idea). The more MP you have the better at low levels! Also eat cookies!

    Good luck :D

as for a taru whm.. you have no problem with MP, so! stack MNDs maybe a lil extra mp gears, but mainly its MND for ya

that till u reach high lvls like + 60-65 then we will talk more

If your interested in the crafting, level cooking on a mule and make all the stupid shit people don't want to bother with. At least leather if you want to kill some rams and sheep.

If you're serious about WHM, get to thirty using BLM and WHM and then unlock SCH. SCH is the best subjob bar none in the game at this point.

    Yes you can sign hairpins

Work on getting outposts and tele crystals asap

I've been reading about scholar. Looks complicated, but all that mana cost reduction looks tasty. :D

I'll be sure to give scholar a try as soon as I ding WHM 30!

Also, I have one outpost tele. I think I got it by running supplies over there (?) I'm not really sure. I get the teles with outpost missions, right?

Get your teleport spells as soon as you can use them (Or before that) if you want to make gil. You can stand in Jueno or Aht Urghan and teleport people that ask for teleport.

Tarutaru is the worst race for just about every job in the game.

When you're new and a low level, you should do a seriously evaluation of the race you chose because you won't be able to change it later. If I could switch to Elvaan, I would do it in a heartbeat.

People will say it doesn't matter.. than spend 10 million gil on something on something that gives them 1 point of strength.

Reminds me of my DRK/BLM days at the Jungle. Damn, I had some epic drains. Oh and do what Devek said. Elvaan > all. Wait, Elvaan (Sean Connery face) > all.

There are a couple of nice things about being a taru whm. For example, you don't have to purchase Astral Rings (in fact, don't). You can spend that extra bit of gil, if you really want to go for it, on Saintly Rings +1, which will then last you all the way to level 54.

If you plan to be a taru mage, try HELM as much as you can. Farming mobs for items will be tougher than on many other jobs. If you're going to level goldsmithing, mine for all you're worth (and level smithing while you're at it--you'll want the subcraft).

Fame will be important, because of the teleport spells. You'll need to have level 4 fame in every city by the time you hit level 36.

Just be grateful you're leveling now. Erase, at level 32, is absolutely necessary and now it's super cheap. I remember having to quit xp for a couple of weeks to harvest enough to pay for it. ^.^

The two weeks I played, I focused on hitting level 18 so my linkshell could help me get my subjob items. Then I started training my sub. So my fame anywhere is... kinda sad, actually.
I think I'll focus on fame for a while.

yea, fame is super important. don't be like me and get fame on your mules, but forget to get it on your main(long and epic story). get /sch /blm /rdm /smn /nin.

Why would you need /SMN if you had /SCH?
