    Can the panic stop please?

Did people actually think that deleting their facebook account meant that shit you wrote on other people's walls got deleted?

It isn't anything like that, it's just simple self-worth from my end. The fact is that they're making a ton of money off of material people put up there, much more than it costs them to run the site, much more than anyone really needs to live comfortably. My problem is that we see this as a 'free' site, but it is so far from that.. we just willingly give them stuff that is very valuable (stupid us).

When I first joined, I knew that my profile 'likes and dislikes' would go into their database and all the stats from all who joined would be bought by marketing companies and such. As time goes on, though, it seems like more of what people have on there is being taken, and a profit is made that we see none of... I don't know, I'm just concerned that little by little, it's going to become worse, and it'll be accepted. Like those "Hi I'm from (insert your city here), wanna hook up?" pop-up ads all around; give it some time, soon you may see your little sister's picture, or your girlfriend, or boyfriend. It's distasteful.. But again, maybe I'm just paranoid. Either way, I don't think it's smart to take this kind of thing lightly.. just my opinion though.

It used to. I had a few friends who closed their account for whatever reason, and when they closed it everything they had wrote on my walls was gone. That was a couple years ago I guess.

In any event, I deleted pretty much everything except for my contact info a couple weeks before I started looking for a serious, full-time job to go with that fancy diploma. While I was attending college, I also worked in the Career Center there and worked with companies looking to recruit students. I saw a fair number of students get burned because the companies would check any facebook/myspace pages. They would have current employees who were from your network (used to go to your college, etc) log in and see what you had on there. Seeing you do a nude keg stand while dressed in Christmas lights does not inspire an employer the way you would think.

I joined Facebook back in 2007, around April. After seeing a few people at work use it and getting over 30 odd e-mails from people on MSN to get me to join, I caved in. When I did join, I clicked on a few profiles and instantly knew that if I list all my likes/dislikes/profile/FUCKING MOBILE NUMBER it will get used/abused. And also, I feel I'll be giving too much away if I told my "friends" what I liked, so as a result from day 1 my profile looks like this:

    Interests: .
    Hobbys: .
    Favourite (stuffs): .

    All of it is "."

    I reveal next to nothing.

I believe from the groups I joined (3 in total, 1 of my own village, 1 of my school, and a pharmacy store group)

The only thing people know about me is that:

I love the "meal deal" in Boots (pharmacy store in UK)
I live in X village (town?)
    My e-mail address

Everything else? I remain a mystery. (or to keep myself somewhat interesting, although judging from the average facebook user with their horrid typing, they will think i am boring). A few elitists on my facebook reveal way too much... too too much (in terms of their favourite "food/activity/music/hobby")

    And I have a bladder.

This smacks of the whole Chrome EULA. Again same situation, they just worded it vaguely. By uploading it, it needs to go through their services. It doing that they may be modified in whatever manner they see fit. You are giving the the authority to do this, for all time with what you have uploaded... as long as you keep it there. Once you delete it, they remove it. Trust me, facebook is not archiving your shit in hopes that they can use it for gain at some later date.
Shit needs to be worded better.

    Exactly.

And besides, unless you're some super hot woman in the perfect category (or man) or a celebrity (unlikely, not counting fake profiles), who would want to use your stuff? Everyone who is taking this seriously really needs a reality check.

All pics are resized to terrible proportions (i.e. huge ass 20mb photo gets turned into some 50kb jpeg shit), i.e. not good to use anyway.

And even if Facebook doesn't use your stuff, what's to stop your 10000+ friends from using it? Or the rest of the internet.

There's probably some bullshit group out there now raging about it "JOIN THIS GROUP AND ONCE WE GET 1000000 MEMBERS WE WIN" kinda thing

And on groups I love "Group Wars"... the one with most lolz and butthurt people were the "I HATE ISLAM" group and the counter group "TAKE DOWN THAT I HATE ISLAM GROUP PLZ" (rough names). Ahhh fun times reading them. Guaranteed a headache/rage against stupid people after 3-5 mins in each group (less in the counter groups usually).

Haha, you always see these after Facebook does anything. I remember when they opened it up to anyone, "JOIN THIS GROUP IF YOU'RE AGAINST NON-COLLEGE PEOPLE ON FACEBOOK!!!" and the stupid @10,000 members we will send a letter to facebook secretary; @1867492 members we will send a letter to facebook president, omgz!, bullshit. Then when they changed the Facebook to include the minifeed, "MINIFEED INVADEZ MY PRIVACYS!!!!", which is actually very reminiscent of what's going on here. Then more recently, the upset was the upgrade to Facebook 2.0 with a huge design change, "I HATE THE NEW FACEBOOK LAYOUT GIVE BACK THE OLD ONE OMGGGGG". People are fucking tools just waiting to join whatever group looks the most passionate despite what it stands for, it's retarded; especially since even though all these fucking people bitch they never delete their accounts and move on after they don't get their way, they just fucking roll with it like they should have from the beginning because whining about little shit is dumb to begin with.

I joined Facebook back when it started as I was entering college and it was only college networks so it was a bit more private and I still think it's a great social networking tool with all the changes they've made and continued updates they provide. This didn't have me worried at all, it's bullshit, kind of odd to see people I expect better from getting upset over it though.

Are you really that surprised man? I mean, this is blatant over-reaction towards something so harmless. I bet they did this just to reign in some marketing that going on without them getting paid.

i have a laptop as do most people in college (posting on it now omg)
    but its pretty fucking awesome
when i have to meet a bunch of kids i dont know in the library for a group project
and we cant get any of the 2483209324 computers in there or an outlet to plug in one of our own
because its filled with kids on facebook
we have to log in through a system called cisco clean access agent so we cant up viruses or something; they need to use that to block facebook for real
    reactions would be priceless
