Atlanta went out and got all-everything TE Gonzalez, has a solid line, and a dynamic offense. Serious questions on defense, but there's enough firepower to keep them in games if they fall behind. When I say "serious questions on defense," I mean your starting cornerbacks are very young, your safeties are not very talented, and your best player plays only a handful of games because of injury (Abraham).
Arizona has the best trio-of-receivers in the game, and a QB deserving of a trip to Canton once his career is over. Which shouldn't be too long. Their offensive line has flaws, but is decent. The Cards can't afford Hightower to have a 2.4 ypc, nor can they seemingly rely on a healthy Chris Wells. Their defense has tremendous talent but is very enigmatic. Biggest question in my book is how they fare having lost both OC Todd Haley and DC Clancy Pendergast, who both went to KC.
The NFL Network, among others, has talked up "the wildcat" as though it has become the primary formation in which teams run their offense. I'd love to see it, but I'm just not sure if it's going to be the new thing in the NFL. Very possible, I just think it might be exposed with a year's worth of footage and an offseason to prepare. Unfortunately, that was the bread-and-butter of the Dolphins last year. The team has an offense that greatly overachieves and relies very heavily on Ronnie Brown, who has only mustered to stay healthy in one of his four NFL seasons. Their defense produces a leader in sacks virtually every year, so they'll get to the quarterback. They'll have to to mask their weaknesses in the backfield. Too much depends on rookie Vontae Davis.
In my opinion, the Cardinals are in the best position of the three to make it back to the playoffs. They easily play in the weakest division, and have the most weapons on both sides of the ball. If they can produce a running game, I think they can make the playoffs again this year. Atlanta's schedule is the toughest of the three, as they face the East divisions while the Dolphins were handed the AFC West and South. I don't see a reason to believe Atlanta not producing points, but their defense on paper looks abysmal. Miami is more balanced, so as long as they can produce offense from formations that don't rhyme with "mildpat," they can maybe, just maybe, contend.
