PS2 Reset/Eject Wire Accident

So...I was installing a fliptop onto my fat, v7 PS2, following some instructions that in hindsight were not terribly clear online. It said to remove the reset/eject harness in order to remove the original top from the ps2, and since it seemed securely attached to the top of the ps2, I pulled on the wires (which I didn't realize were wires until much later), and they came readily out from under the CD drive tray. I wasn't aware I had done something wrong until several instructions later it said to reattach the reset/eject buttons to the new fliptop, and to not pinch the wiring...so yeah, long story short, am I fucked or what? Is there a way to reattach the wires, or am I looked at having to get another ps2?

if its that band of wires that i think you're talking about, its just a flat band and as long as it isn't like crumpled you should be able to re-attach them into where they came out. It's kinda hard to do so because of where they go but they just slide into a little housing thing. grab some flat headed tweezers or something, makes it easier.

I can't seem to get the wires to go back into the little thing. Is there anyway to loosen it so that the wires will go in? Even if I try to force them in, they have no strength behind them and they just bend and fall out, they won't even go in a couple mm...Is there maybe a way to remove the drive and put them in that way? Anything to not have to scrap this ps2.

Which end did the wire come out of? The drive, or the buttons?

Ive always thought if that wire comes out.... your pretty much SOL.

I just gently wiggled it in with a blunt tweezer. took me like 15mins but its possible
