I am not actually interested in sports threads, but I can't list many reasons why else one would visit General these days(basically: Random Image for me, entire pic folder dumps need not apply). For better or for worse political threads have cooled off and what we most often get instead is garbage news that is equal to the common spam forum thread.

There are several other forums you guys could peruse, you know. Away from BG if you have issues with the things are done. Just sayin'.

As for the actual issue at hand: Having NFL Week 37 and NFL Week 38 and NFL Week 39 on the front page of General Discussion was kind of annoying. 300+ page threads of nothing but text isn't terrible overload iirc, especially with this new forum. Unless you're posting a literal play-by-play with various shots of the game during the game and adding your John Madden-esque marks in Paint- it should be OK.

Fantasy and Real sports should never cross swords. It's like piling dragons with dungeons & dragons. I want to know if they discovered real dragons without reading how many d20s I have to roll to find a hooker in a haystack. That being said I am in favour of the following: One Sports Thread per Season (there are few sports that are hindered by this, and I'm sorry majority of sports > minority), One Sports Thread per Off-Season (if wholly necessary, I don't think it is- but I don't follow sports religiously, so whatever), One Fantasy Sports Thread during Season.

That makes 3 threads per year about your sports! As for the crying about the amount of LM-17 threads compared to Sport Threads... well... you know... this is a primarily FFXI Forum. Once again, just sayin'.

In my defense I tried the Discussion Forum/Thread idea and people hated it I can't figure out why

That being said! I don't even like all the sub-forums, but to keep it away from sub-forum death you must compromise, I'd say.

I had other stuff to say but I don't care enough to remember. Oh yeah, post-season stuff could qualify for its own thread, as could World Series/Stanley Cup stuff. My ideas, anyhow.

Wait. I'm not sure I'm getting you completely. When you say "One Sports Thread per season".. which sport? Baseball? Basketball? College/NFL? So one thread per sport? Or one giant Sports thread in general? If it's the latter, then that's definitely more insane than anything.

So seeing a couple of the NFL threads on the front page bothers you. Like you told us.. there's other areas/forums you could peruse if it bothers you that much. Right? I'm not saying "Gtfo" or anything, but telling people who don't like a couple of the ideas to do the very thing you could do as well is slightly hypocritical.

Hey there's other forums I could go to! Yeah, we could argue that one back and forth- but I just like to think at the end of the day this will still somewhat retain the fact it was created as a FFXI Player Forum discussing general topics and not a bunch of people who once played/never played FFXI discussing sports across forty threads. I like to catch interesting news on General Discussion without having to go to Page 2 or 3 to get this morning's threads (which I couldn't view because they were made when I wasn't around a computer!) I mean we're all hypocrites here, everyone could leave, every subject could have its own sub-forum, etc ad infinitum and so forth

And it wasn't directed towards the people providing helpful criticism, more towards the people crying Q_Q WAY TO KILL THE FORUMS JACKHOLES- because really who cares about those people's opinions? And really you telling me to gtfo for not liking your ideas is the same amount of hypocrisy of me telling you to gtfo for not liking mine- no? Or are you implying you're inherently more important than everyone else? C'mon man- don't start this train a rollin'

My opinion likely doesn't matter much, but I wouldn't mind the sports sub-forum idea if it were at all possible. Some sports (MMA/Boxing) can't really all be piled into one thread, because there is no "season" for them. An MMA thread would end up falling 10 pages or more back from the front page before the next big event comes up. I could see that causing people to complain about necro bumps and whatnot.

What about the ESPN BG games such as March Madness, Bowl Pick Em, etc? Those are distinctly different than just than, say, College Football 05? I would think one thread for each of those games would make sense. It's hard to invite people to a Bowl Pick Em game when you're on page 52 of the College Football '08 thread.

The sports sub-forum would take care of all of these problems, and I'd only ever have to check General forum for Random Pics & FoD thread.

It sounded like they wanted a single fantasy thread per sport too if I'm understanding it right, going from what Rocl said. That would be feasible if there were only one fantasy game to be played with a sport like we're doing with basketball at the moment. I don't know how messy a fantasy football thread could get though, with all the different leagues and games hosted here

Since practically every sport has a single thread other than the NFL threads, the problem is secluded to an entire 21 NFL threads per year. 21 threads. If this is truly an overload issue then this solution is the equivalent of sticking a snoopy band-aid on a severed limb. 17 weeks of NFL plus 4 weeks of playoffs is 21 threads. 21 threads a year in a forum that produces how many threads a day? A year? I have serious doubts this has anything to do with overloading or overtaxing. I'm guessing one of two reasons this has been brought up...someone doesn't like 2 NFL threads out of 20 threads on the front page cluttering space (which happens for about 2 days when I make the newest thread), or Senoska just really cried so fucking hard that you had to rebuild the god damned titanic to float your way through his tears of weeabooism. By the way, firefox totally didn't correct wooabooism in the spellchecker. This was never a problem with much less stable forums when Daahan was making the threads. Maybe, or I'm sure that there were probably less users, but as I said, I really really doubt this is an issue of overtaxing. In the 12 threads I could find for the NFL weekly threads, there were 197 pages. That's an average of 16 pages per week. YOu think it's a good idea to combine all of them? That's just 12 of 21 weeks, hell, that's not even including playoffs. It isn't like we're just making useless threads that noone is contributing to here. It's one of the most discussed topics in all of BG. Other than FFXI related material, can you tell me another topic that can drive 300+ pages a year (or hell, in less than 6 months)?

C'mon Rocl...huge exaggeration. There are posts right now on the front page of General that haven't been touched in 5 days, and that's with all the omgsportssportssports. If you have to dig to page 2 or 3...gotta say it - lurk moar.

I skipped over most of this thread because it's late, but my 2 cents is that there are never more Sports threads then are needed. There's usually just one per sport per season, the exception being the NFL which has a game thread each week, with all discussion contained within that. Sports fans on this forum aren't numerous enough - nor are there enough threads - to warrant making a subsection. I don't think anything has to be changed.

I agree wholeheartedly.

There's way more useless threads in advanced that get locked after like two posts than anything sports-related.

Picking on sports seems kind of unfair.
