Don't let the media scare and lie to you guys.
The brits were once again making fun of the french for being pussies. They were like "Hey french sub, what are you gonna do when a nuclear war breaks out, surrender? HAHAHA" and the french just lost it.
I always remembered someone telling me (probably one of my global/history teachers) that the US has submarines positioned at a lot of spots around the globe so that if we ever were to get attacked and somehow decimated or unable to function the subs would be able to retaliate. I thought everyone knew that haha, seems like common sense to me, and a good plan for anyone trying to start crap as Komm Suesser Tod said. I'd be willing to bet the US has at least 5 or 7 around right now just laying low.
I need to start reading articles before I post.

I'm pretty sure nuclear subs carry something near half of the US' total active nuclear arsenal.
They're allowed to move around the world outside the sight of spy satellites, they're an excellent deterrent in nuclear warefare.
Like I said it's not the concepts of them having nukes ready to launch in the given situations, it's the idea that "48 nuclear warheads" and "routine patrol" somehow belong together.
Like others said above, MAD. The U.S. has more than a couple subs with nuclear capability out all the time.
That said, what are the fucking odds that 2 subs would crash into each other in the ocean? It's like 2 airplanes hitting each other. Obviously it was just a case of Chicken gone wrong. 'Damn ze nuclear warheads! Ze British will not foil us again! FULL SPEED AHEAD'
