Yeah, it seems like you have to be more specialized in the automotive field to get offered a position. That's a good thing. It makes it a little harder for them to just fire employees without reason.

It also makes it much more difficult to get rid of the people we want to get rid of. Plus we have a call center manager who is the loopiest bitch I've ever seen. She actively attempts to stop us from writing people up, enforcing attendance policies, and even basic shit like coaching sessions.

There is some serious talk that they're going to close down the UPS hub I work at, and pretty much everyone there would just get fired, including myself, unless we wanted to move somewhere, and that's only going to be for a select few of us.

I'm not sure how it works in the States, I assume you have the Better Business Bureau or some kind of Employment Standards Act, but you may want to look into the fact that they increased your required duties (at salary) without increasing said salary

do you have a contract? you menioned no compensation (no increase to vacation etc) I would think you would have some kind of recourse. perhaps I'm wrong and you're somewhat screwed, these times are rough and not exactly the time to be stirring the pot or looking for a new job, but you still have rights

perhaps they could put you to hourly wages while retaining your benefits

So I spoke to my boss here at lovely AAA today. Apparently HR in their infinite wisdom has approved the usage of mandatory overtime and sporadic six day work weeks. We work in the inner city of Pittsburgh. Our turnover rate is absolutely ridiculous as it is now. We don't pay calltakers well, at all. By implementing this, they are essentially insuring an even higher turnover rate.

Worst part is I'm salary so should I actually have to do a sixth work day I'm working for free. Respond if you want I'm just dumping this here because I'm fucking furious and I would like to fucking punch our director in the mouth.

I read through that and thought "I didn't know that he lives in Pittsburgh too".

The funny part is the vast majority of those alterna-kids who were then busy drinking coffee and not caring about society's rules who now have white-bread existences in the suburbs with opposite-sex spouses and 2.3 children. I sometimes wish that I could get a time machine to show posers their future so I could crush their spirits when they were younger and maybe they would turn out less douchey when they are approaching middle-aged.
