I have to ask, quite seriously, how do you determine when to give out infractions?

I mean let's be honest, this whole website is slam full of threads going off topic and rarely is the threat of an infraction brought up, topics are allowed to go off topic for pages on end.

Why is this topic different? Are recruitment threads held to a higher degree of accuracy, or did someone complain enough (since the loudest voice always wins). I'm curious.

Infraction categories are tied directly to the rules of the forum and the specific rules of individual forums; it's very hard to miss-infraction and very easy to see a discrepancy. We don't have a general "UR FUCKED/DONT LIKE IT" button, it's all divided to cover the different situations that occur.

A certain degree of off-topic posting is going to occur in threads; that's how they stay active as the conversation shifts due to increased input. This isn't a bad thing in every case. I received a PM from the OP requesting this thread be locked, however I felt it was in poor taste to do so, because after they'd made the request they'd continued to retort/argue/get shots in, and I don't like people to think they can complain to a mod and get away with shit at the same time.

That was an individual judgment call, which one has to do if one is moderating. Tekki decided to enforce a strict interpretation of how he wanted the rest of the thread to go, and it should be respected. No thread is alike and no situation is alike.

Of course, this counts as an off-topic post, so if you'd like to respond I'd be happy to talk about it via PM.

Rather than saying some posts are moving completely off topic, I think the off topic posts are very relevant to the opinion of some posters have on the specific LS that are trying to get people.

I agree with Isladar this thread should not be locked... for now.
