The problem with ground war is that one or two good people can completely change how the other 7 people play. If you've got a couple of guys who can just hold down a particular area you can gradually advance and fuck their shit up because you know you wont get shot in the back.

The easiest way to improve your game is to learn to use cover effectively. It sounds simple but even some of the most veteran players don't do it well. Many people get into the habit of reckless run and gunning in pubs and get punished for it in competition. The best way to explain the strategy is to push forward until you reach good cover and to hold your opposition back, then slowly creep forward from cover to cover. It sounds really stupid and elementary, but if you work on recognizing a losing situation, and finding the best cover, you'll become much harder to kill.

Sitting too close to a team mate. This game is ridiculously team based and most people don't use that to their advantage. Strength in numbers is fine, but having too many people covering one angle is asking to be flanked or rushed. It may be hard to give up a prime position because your team mate got there first, but covering another angle will yield you more kills simply because you won't be getting flanked and your team mates will be getting more kill streaks which also benefits you. Its frustrating in pubs sometime because you'll have something locked down and someone will come sit on top of you, but it can't be helped and you should just pick up the slack and move to another location.

the kill streaks in this game are fucking awesome but they are also a huge crutch. Its fun to pop off a few pavelows or chopper gunners but anyone worth their salt will shoot the best kill streaks down - many times before you even get one kill with it. Yes you can rack up a ton of kills with high kill streaks selected but its much better to choose consistency over spiked performance. In general people have the misconception that kill streaks are required to play well when it's more of a perk for having played well. The low kill streaks really are the best ones and calling them in continually far outweighs holding back all round to try and get that chopper gunner. I usually rock UAV, predator/sentry, and harrier strike.

The last thing is guns. It can be boiled down to personal taste but there is a reason competitive gamers tend to like the same guns. My rule of thumb is to pick the guns with the highest damage ratings. A prime example for comparison is the UMP vs P90/MP5k. I understand the whole concept of DoT and sacrificing a little power for RoF. but the higher damage weapons can do a few things the faster firing ones can't do - namely conserving ammo, killing multiple enemies in one magazine and shooting through objects. The UMP is the superior choice for SMGs because it has good iron sights (doesn't restrict vision like the P90), has low recoil in full auto (the P90 has lower recoil but UMP is more manageable then the MP5k) and is the most versatile at all ranges. Smgs are meant to be used for close quarters, but that doesn't mean you should only use them exclusively for maps void of any range. The UMP is still a 2-3 hit even at extreme ranges and that's where RoF means nothing. The only way to be accurate is to tap your trigger and fire off single shots, which means the UMP gets the job done much faster due to its damage rating. Take terminal for example. A SMG is easily the prefered weapon type due to all of the tight spaces, but an AR still rules the outside and long straight corridors. In tight quarters, any SMG will be nearly indistinguishable. But the UMP is the best SMG because it fairs better outside of optimal conditions giving you a better chance to push through the AR choke points and start merking more people again.
I'd agree with everything except the mention of Terminal in this case. That's probably one of the better explanations of how and why many people don't do well. I personally don't like any SMG and I actually prefer the M4 on a map like Terminal. I get alot of headshots though so I don't really need to be concerned with mobility and rate of fire because I get quick kills and move into my next spot. It's like you said really, all personal preference. Being consistent even if it means you get less kills makes you a better player. People always try to do too much.

Afghan groundwar should be banned. That board is so unfair if you start out with the hillside and just hold that shit down. Was racking up alot of kills bc people was being dumb and kept comming the same way.
Hey i just got sniped. maybe if i go back to where i was sniped he wont be there...
    I love those people.

Setting up a riot shield boosting game with friends now, we need a few more people anyone want in?

If anyone wants to for the next few hours, add Meeeeeep (That's 6 e's) on XBL now.

Is XP really that hard to get? Half the fun is leveling up and completing challenges and stuff. At least to me..

Fantastic first post. Some great points in it, even though some, as you mention seems elementary, it holds true in-game.

And your part on gun selection. I have a SMG build for the tight quarters maps, then a SCAR-H build for the medium to longer length maps. But, I suppose from habit, idk, but I tend to exclusively use a a. rifle in all map types. I think until I can boost my k/d up alittle, I'll play around with more gun types.

Also your piece about killstreaks is spot-on, that's the exact setup I run, and it seems to yield more of a benefit than the bigger streaks.

That's assuming they don't shoot the harrier down. I'd go with something like AC-130 or CHopper gunner anyway because if I make it to 7 I can make it to 11 and I'll be guaranteed 10 or more kills.

Reason I go with the 7 is because half the time I get robbed on my preds. And usually I can get a cheap kill or 2 with the carpet bomb before the harrier. I think I have AC130 unlocked though... Maybe I should just say fuck it and go for the gold, eh.

I go with 4,5,8 for all the nice quick exp. Get to 8 and you more or less claim victory if your teams gets all the packages.

If I'm going pure KDR, I'm going to run the scrubbiest build possible. Even scrubbier than Naramaska's old shotgun builds in MW1. Even scrubbier than MP5 Juggernaut Triple Frag Martyrdrom M9.

Ideally, I'd run something like predator > harrier > EAD because it offers more potential damage and with smart gameplay, can actually be used to take out other air support, with either the predator, or harrier, or even other drops from the EAD crates.

I'm actually looking to do mass sentries/EAD in domination one day. Each member runs Sentry > Harrier > EAD. Throw all of em down and just watch the mass field of fire at each point lol.

Boosting games for xp does not make sense. Why play the game if you just going to do matches like that. Not like getting prestige will make you a better player.

You can tell the legit players and the ones that make rooms. Its funny how they complain when you lower than them and just rape them. But its really sad when you see them on your team and they are like 3 kills and 20 deaths........

I enjoyed destroying a full room of gold crosses as a Level 1 no prestige going 44-1. I miss those days. On my troll account.

I don't see how "flanking" works consistently. Whenever I try to go circle a team, my teammates just constantly spawn on me, showing up on UAV and heartbeat sensors. That's when the team isn't already split up on every chokepoint.

When i try to flank i keep a constant eye on where my team is. When they start spawning near me i tend to stop and check wtf is going on. But i do agree i hate the people that dont have cb or ninja and stay by me. I always tend to get killed bc of that.
