Dedicated Servers for CoD:MW2 Petition
Just so you know, Everyone who signed that is still gonna buy the game, thus making that petition moot.
I dont care personally, Im gettin it for 360 anyways.
i know, I just found the sheer speed at which it was rising to be amusing
41k as of now lol
Well, I'm not buying this game.
PC made the game popular and they aren't really supporting their PC players at all. They pretty much took away 95% of the reasons why people play it on PC.
Im going to get it for steam
and I guarantee, guaranfuckingtee, there will be a mod to allow playback on a server. This is a nice idea but not the best way to do it, who knows how it will work
I already have had it preordered for 360 for a while and I was going to pick it up on Steam when it was released there, but like I said, they're getting $60 less from me. If I didn't have an Xbox, I wouldn't be interested in it at all - matchmaking on PC for a serious FPS like MW2 is a complete non-buy for me. Valve *almost* got away with it in L4D because the games are a lot smaller and being "stuck with 3 random strangers" fits with the story - but even they gave in after a huge shitstorm.
Of course, the petition won't work, both because online petitions are always worthless and because Activision really doesn't give a shit. The CoD series is their console baby, every version gets less and less PC-friendly, and that's the way they like it. If sales tank (which I doubt they will), they can blame piracy and a dying PC games scene and be happy. If sales don't tank, they have nothing to worry about, but I can assure you that MW2 won't be taken seriously by the PC gaming crowd as long as it relies on matchmaking as a substitute for dedicated servers.
As for modding, I have my doubts. You can't just conjure the dedicated server software out of nowhere. Writing one from scratch would be an enormous (and legally questionable) project, and trying to rip the server code out of the game itself would most likely be a disaster. Who knows, though, I guess anything is possible. I'd be thrilled if they changed their mind or if someone came up with a *solid* third-party solution, but I'm not betting $60 on it.
Only umad can aptly describe PC players at the moment.
Pretty much the same here (sans the controller joke.) I was trying hard to figure out how to budget MW2 in... but they just keep slapping the PC community in the face. Don't get me wrong with the statement I'm about to make, UC2's lobby system is actually decent considering, but the time it takes to throw people together into what ends up being (much of the time) unbalanced teams is staggering. To be able to open a server console and join a lobby with the precise settings I want would be wonderful. When I was doing COD4 multiplayer, it was nice being able to sort everything and just join the lowest ping server. None of the fucking lag issues I no longer expect now that I have broadband.
Thanks IW, you did save me $54.13. I'll just pirate it for the SP; don't worry about your lost money though, your decisions already lost the paying customer prior to release.
Also I'm not mayad by any means really. I'm not a COD fanatic like some people. This is just really annoying and part of a longer list of PC annoyances not worth dealing with.
I think not allowing dedicated servers on a game that became famous on dedicated servers is absolutely retarded. That being said, it doesn't really mean that I'm not going to buy it (per se) but I'm seriously reconsidering wasting my time playing it.
AT least this will have dedicated servers

Update: EA’s official Bad Company 2 Twitter has chimed in with two tweets; “To answer a lot of questions; Will #BFBC2 PC have dedicated servers the user will control? YES!” and “And console (PS3, Xbox360) also has access to host Dedicated servers through BFBC2 Private Matches, eliminating “host with the most” issues.”
Original story: Following Infinity Ward’s decision to ditch the use of dedicated servers and instead go with a service they call IWNet, DICE’s Karl-Magnus Troedsson, the executive producer of the Battlefield franchise, has assured that fans of Battlefield: Bad Company 2 need not worry of DICE going down a similar road.
“Dedicated servers FTW,” Troedsson tweeted yesterday. “What ever secures a better online experience is a given for us.”
At GamesCom earlier this year, Troedsson said Modern Warfare 2 better watch its back. “We have the utmost respect for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 but Battlefield: Bad Company 2 is gonna redefine online multiplayer gaming,” Troedsson said during a multiplayer presentation to the press. I guess, in the eyes of PC gamers, the current controversy doesn’t exactly hurt his case.
Well, that came out as garbled trash.
In all seriousness, if you played BF;BC on console, you know you're not getting a dedicated server any time soon.
I'm somewhat disappointed with this article. Was hoping for a better (longer) single player game this time around.

Although I really like the single player I too agree with the length that they've decided on. It's long enough to not disappoint and it still has some replay value after it's completed. I mean it's really all about the multiplayer anyway so.
Got on MW on pc again and saw these
Servers with boycott in name | Server / Player Search | Game-Monitor.com :: Server Search, Monitoring, Stats and more
row row etc
I hope the people that are "boycotting" don't buy the game. That way, there's less people bitching about the servers online.
