Party chat should be blocked when your party actually crosses teams. It should also be blocked in FFA modes (obviously) and both game AND party chat should be blocked when you're dead in certain modes to prevent spectator cheating. None of those are particularly hard to detect, and I'll be extremely disappointed if they go any further than that.
As a side note, fuck off with your "lol Xbox" bullshit. Party chat is a damn nice feature that most people do NOT use to cheat. It makes playing as a group much less annoying, because you can talk about strategy without dealing with random retards screaming and whining about everything on game chat. If anything, you should be bitching to Sony to have it added, not dancing around like a retard screaming about how happy you are that your console doesn't have a feature that people on the other side love. Grow the fuck up.
Hey, I have a PC. I don't own a PS3.
I'm still loling at XBox, simply because they are loling at PC users for "QQing" over loss of dedicated servers.
Dedicated servers are a much more important and integral feature in online FPS gaming than some stupid cross party-chat shit on a console. If anything, maybe console gamers should shut the fuck up now that they have something to complain about too.
Xfire, steam overlay, aim, msn, and icq.

Of course MW on pc is pretty hectic in 40+ player games in small maps >_>
Ventrilo and Teamspeak.
We don't use public VoIP for the same reason you don't. It sucks.
Dedicated servers are an integral part of PC FPS gaming, not console. We're not going to boycott the game because we lost our private VoIP. It's just a feature that's been added to increase the integrity of gameplay online. We don't have to deal with people playing in a match and sabotaging us, but now we can't chat with our friends on the other team.
We'll probably just grab some PC headsets and sit on vent and play at this point.
That is pretty much my exact feeling on this as well. The friends I generally play with are mainly TDM players and we very very rarely stray outside of that game type.
That said, I like to be able to chat with my friend and not have to worry about being heard by any of the other players. We aren't cheating, just using the Live Party Chat for what it was given to us for... fun.
THAT being said, I 110% get why IW would want this put into place. There simply are game modes where Party Chat can become an exploit, and disabling it in those modes makes perfect sense. I still want to be able to use it in modes where it doesn't matter though, as it greatly ups my overall enjoyment of the game to be able to do so.
If that isn't the case? If it is just a straight up "CANNOT USE!" then whatever, I will play the game, I will mute the mutable, and go one with my day. It just won't be AS fun.
If you're playing with friends, usually you're playing on the same team. Which is what I was assuming this guy was talking about? Most people I know play with 6 so there's never anyone we don't know. If you're playing on opposite teams well you're just shit out of luck I supposed. If you're playing with someone idk why'd you be on opposite teams anyway just me I guess.
You're conflating two different conversations. Cheaters use party talk to give out information that they're not supposed to, whether it's their friends on the other team, or friends on their own team during gameplay types where you normally can't talk while dead. Legit players are the ones who just like having a private channel to talk to people they know on their own team without dealing with the idiots. One of the big benefits of playing with a group of friends is that you can talk strategy and people will actually *listen*. Party talk lets you do that without having to compete for air time with the screaming 12 year old who's convinced that everyone better than him (which tends to be, well, everyone except me, I'm safe) is cheating.
Like I posted before, I have no problems with limiting party talk in the places where it makes sense - but banning it altogether in any game type other than FFA seems like heavy-handed overkill.
I had something else written but it sounded like I was attacking so, I'll ask this way. How many people do you play with on average? If it's 6,5, or hell even 4 people muting someone takes two seconds and you can continue to chat without competition with anyone. Which is partially why it really didn't make sense to me. Ground war awards less points/kills so I don't anyone who actually plays that mode seriously cept to just jerk around.
Edit: Just to be clear I play on PS3 so it's quite different, PSN msgs can be sent from any menu and titles of messages show in the top right so you don't need party or some outside chat to communicate. Although the chat feature of the PS3 can also be used to communicate mid-game. Text chat that is. So that's probably why it's confusing more to me, but I still say if you're playing with friends, more than 3, this change doesn't do anything.
Ground war is the same as TDM, HQ, and Domination. We're playing for a large amount of kills and a good KD spread, rather than bum rushing crappy crappy SnD maps, for 50 points, but for 1-4 kills a game. Zosi occasionally plays with nara/myself/rich/coolwhip/rryoji. Its generally at least 4, if not 4-6.
We don't like listening to the random noise that XBL players generate, and would rather listen to each other bitch and scream over the mic, because hey, at least we know when something is going on, rather than some douchebag blasting music over his headset.
I'm confused then. Because ground war is ONLY TDM and Domination on the ps3. Unless it's different on Xbox than that's not accurate. Ground war matches are A. incredibly short in TDM form, and B. always give less points than Headquarters because domination points cap earlier than they do in HQ (240HQ v. 200D). They are also more laggy.
The only thing that gives more is SnD. Also if you're looking for kill/death ratio boosts than HQ is the only way to go. It is literally the only mode where you can complete the objective in under a minute and have 10 minutes to just own the other team.
You were saying the kills/points were less. I'm stating that's just not true. And yes, HQ is not in GW on 360, but it was an illustration of points/gametype
Sure, TDM in GW is kinda short but you're playing more of them, it's also going to be a landslide of us shutting the enemy team out with less than 250 points across the board. In GW Domination, we actually control how many flags the enemy gets, and we'll often extend the match by going to 1 flag, and them with 2 towards the middle/end so we can spend more time chaining helicopters/weapons kills.
At 10P, its not alot of points compared to S&D. While leveling up, its substantially more points, as you're completing weapons challenges and other misc challenges for an average of 1k points+ a game. You're not getting that without making at least 20 kills or having kills+plants, and you're doing it less often. A bad game hurts more in SND than it does in TDM/HQ/Domination.
I can't say that 6+ people during a domination match having 55+ kills isn't amusing or great for leveling. Its how I got 3 prestige during the map pack double xp weekend. Not too bad averaging 2k points a game because of challenges/kills.
What I said still is technically accurate. You're just saying that the shorter matches over time accumulate more points. Might be true but I can't say I ever tried it.
I'm wondering if care package kill-streaks are gonna count towards your ongoing streak? If so, AC-130's are gonna be rampant.
I think I read on SA that someone confirmed that wasn't gonna be the case.
Was watching a feed on justinTV and looks like you can't pty chat even in TDM
Wow that's just stupid, really.
How is party chat promoting cheating at TDM?
