I've never heard of the inability to get the front windows tinted period. I thought in KY, you could have the fronts tinted at 20% max and the rears a bit darker. Having both the back tinted and the passenger tinted but not the driver reminds me of a very funny Bill Engvall joke.

what would be the point of trying to get the dealership involved? it's a strict liability violation, same as the speed limit, you are the one responsible, and ignorance of the law isn't an excuse. Personal responsibility has gone out the window these days, besides would you want to spend the money to fight a violation?

He proceeded to write me a ticket for $285 (250 for the tint violation, 35 for not having my front license plate on), which I contested.

They weren't perma-tints, just professionally-applied stick-on ones, so I pulled them off, made my case to the magistrate, and they dropped the whole ticket. And I got an excused absence from school because I had to appear in court! Man, that was a good day.
Under new inspection guidelines in MA, inspection stations are going to check your tint with a meter as well, if its darker than 35% then you will fail and receive a black R inspection sticker (fix it in 60 days)

As for the ticket........ Limo tint is dark, in IN the legal limit is 30%.... limo tint isnt even close to the 30% limit, its alot darker. The officer can easily eyeball it, and know its darker than it should be.

I say if you goto court, say you purchased the car at the dealership. They never informed you the tints were illegal, and that you did not apply them after you purchased the car.

Most judges will let you off for that.

By federal law, licensed dealerships CANNOT sell you a car that will not pass state/federal safety laws.

If the dealership sold him the car with those tints on, and they are truely illegal...its a violation on behalf of the dealership.

That's really difficult to do. Cars are made quieter and quieter and in most places and areas on the road, the PA in the police car won't be loud enough. You'd have to be pretty close to the car to get them to roll down all windows, and by that time you are already at risk.

Cars don't pull over for firetrucks/ambulances/police cars barreling down behind them, tinting should not be nearly that dark unless it's a show car. I know it looks good on some cars, but it's a risk. Shouldn't need an additional risk, it's pointless.

Glass is hot, it's transparent and shit, ever see how that shit is made? Who wants tinting when glass is that fucking awesome. Fuck yeah Glass.

What are the new guidelines? Maybe I'll switch my registration over to SC before the next time I drive back up there, sticker is about 2 years past due >_>

This happened ~10 years ago, either right before or right after they bumped up the inspection standards. Honestly can't remember if that was just the enhanced emissions requirements or if anything else was included. At any rate though, I'm surprised they didn't previously check that.

That car definitely did get rejected though, but because I had a tie rod that needed replacing.

But are you prepared to pay the fine from the BG morality police?!... As I'm sure you came here looking for a scolding and a firm talking-to.
